If you want to catch big fish, then you’ve come to the right place. Welcome to Tampa Bay, Florida, home of some of the best inshore and offshore fishing in the world! I’m a native of the Tampa Bay area and have been fishing the waters of Tampa Bay and the Gulf since I could walk. This gives me the unique advantage of knowing when and where the fish are and how to make them bite on my tampa fishing charters. I am a FULL-TIME fishing guide and am on the water almost 300 days a year. Whether your goal is a monster snook, giant tarpon, or a shark 3 times your size, we can do it! Some of my favorite species to fish for include Tarpon, Cobia, Snook, Redfish, and trout.

Fishing is the most popular recreational pastime in America; it boasts more active enthusiasts than golf, tennis and sailing combined. Saltwater fishing alone draws in nearly 25 million participants nationwide in a single year. Whether it be trolling offshore for big tuna, drifting across a placid bay for flounder or fishing the skinny water of the intertidal flats for redfish and trout, the plurality of venues and fish species available to saltwater anglers can seem virtually endless.

Once you get the party rocking, freeline live shrimp, pilchards or threads on 2/0 circle hooks toward the pilings. Let out line in 5-foot increments to “count” back and locate the hot zone. In strong current or choppy conditions, add a splitshot or replace the circle hook with a jighead to keep your bait from kiting too high in the water column.

Florida Inshore Angler is my latest title not yet released, but should be finished in 2013-14.  I have compiled this title to include the widest range of topics on Florida inshore saltwater fishing from both boat and land in great detail!  I can ensure you that it will answer most of your fishing questions and be a great addition to your book collection.

Booked a 7a-11a trip with Captain Anthony. We arrived at 6:40 and he had his boat in the water and was all set to go. Anthony is very friendly and easy to talk to. He put us over a reef where we caught silver trout and some sea bass. He then took us to some vacant docks where we caught sea trout, pinfish, ladyfish, and multiple sheepshead. Fun trip, will hope to book another trip in the future.

When the fish are thick, tip a bare jig with a live fiddler crab and it’s pompano fireworks. Pomps may bite one-here-one-there, but more often than not, you’ll have to search several pilings to find the mother lode. Do your looking with jigs and hit the school with fiddlers.

2 At Madeira Beach, “The hogfish bite is still going strong despite the full moon from a depth of 40-60 feet. Deeper offshore, the tuna are thick, but it’s been difficult getting to them with the weather. The snapper bite has been good. The moon has the fish on the move and the good weather has them chewing,” reports Capt. Dylan Hubbard of Hubbard’s Marina (727-393-1947).

Buyer beware: These days, it seems everybody and their brother is a fishing guide. Unfortunately, many of these captains are part-timers which use inferior equipment, vessels, have zero customer service skills or just recently obtained their USCG license and have little experience. Then there are the charter booking agencies who don’t care whose boat they stick you on, as long as they take your hard-earned money. These unscrupulous charter services sadly leave the consumer very disappointed and believing that the fishing in Florida is highly overrated.

Fall Brings Cooler Temps and Fishing Heats Up! – Back to normal temps this time of year has the fish biting! The bite has been outstanding the past 10 days and it should stay like this for a while. Let’s talk Trout fishing; my clients are enjoying some nice trout to take home this time of year a more…

The Skyway is not the only place for boat-less souls to land a fish. There is good wade fishing leading up to the bridge, as well as the areas around the Courtney Campbell Causeway and the Gandy Bridge. Fort De Soto Park has good wade fishing, as well as two piers. The Redington Long Pier off Redington Beach has been a go-to spot for pier fishermen for over 50 years.

For a natural chum job, scrape the pilings to crush and release barnacles or mussels. The scent stimulates sheepshead, drum, redfish and pompano—all likely recipients of cut shrimp dropped into the scent zone on 1⁄4-ounce jigheads. (Light hooks and splitshots also work, but jigheads effect a more streamlined presentation that drops quicker in current without spooking fish.)

Talavera builds on the Shimano legacy of high performance saltwater rods with all-new rod tapers built to punish the fish and not the angler. Designed with high quality materials and components, Talavera delivers exceptional power and durability for inshore and offshore fishing.

Best value for the money. Maximize time on the water. This is a great trip to exercise both patience and energy. Excellent choice for beginners with a desire to learn a lot or the experienced angler wishing to maximize his skills.

• Dangling Tackle: Popping out from the bridge shadows and running face-first into a dropping hook or sinker is a guaranteed ER visit. Also, an often tenuous relationship exists between those fishing from a bridge and those motoring around it, so remember the courtesy thing and stay clear of deployed lines.

We have expectations of only catching a few fish. They where exceeded ten fold. We started small with shephead to make sure we got some fish. Then we stepped it up from species to species and did amazing on all. Steve is a great guy…More

Our fishing rights are under attack like never before in the history of this nation! I urge everyone, saltwater and freshwater, boat or landside fishermen to get involved in the politics of fishing now! (See the two “Warnings” below) There are so-called ‘environmental’ groups getting ‘tough’ with the politicians and pretending they are pro fishing, when in reality they want all uses of our waters to cease immediately. No more fishing, recreational or commercial, no water skiing, no boating, no houses on the shores, also no hunting, no hiking in the wild, NO NOTHING!

The Teramar rod series was created for anglers from two very different locations: the Southeast and the West Coast. As a result, we built two unique series in one. Southeastern anglers will find perfect rods for plug casting for snook, spinning on the flats or tarpon fishing under passes. West Coast anglers have an array of rods that includes trigger-stick casting rods for swim baits and jig sticks.

Below is a list of fishing piers found on the Boating and Angling Guide to Tampa Bay. The number identifying each pier is the same as the identifying number used in the Boating and Angling Guide to Tampa Bay.

Whether Osborne is guiding one or six anglers to some of the world’s best light tackle fishing, you’ll never catch him fishing himself or sitting on his butt, even on an eight-hour charter. That’s because he’s too busy rigging, chumming, baiting hooks and releasing fish. Osborne prides himself as being the hardest working fishing guide in the industry. He remains on his feet tirelessly during your entire charter, to make sure you have the very best fishing experience available for your money, bar none.

Capt. Matt always delivers. Regardless of the season, He knows where the fish are and can get there in his very comfortable shallow running Andros 26′ boat. He provides his anglers with top notch fishing gear and a great history of his home waters, Tampa Bay. If you want to have a fantastic fishing trip in Tampa Bay, I highly recommend a charter with Capt. Matt!-Corey Maysles

I think that going on a fishing charter in the ocean would be a lot of fun. I would seem like a real challenge to go out there and catch a large fish like tuna, or a marlin. That would be a real adventure, and then you get to tell stories about the fish you caught.

It’s worth noting that the open season for some of the Gulf species tends to be very limited. It’s always a good idea to check with your captain or the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission before making the charter arrangements.

As a sixth-generation Floridian, Captain Kevin Walton knows St. Pete Beach’s waters inside and out. Let him help you catch the fish of your dreams for that special Kodak moment! You don’t have to worry about finding a boat or renting equipment – Captain Kevin has you covered, and can help you reel in a big one! No equipment or experience needed!
