Our fishing rights are under attack like never before in the history of this nation! I urge everyone, saltwater and freshwater, boat or landside fishermen to get involved in the politics of fishing now! (See the two “Warnings” below) There are so-called ‘environmental’ groups getting ‘tough’ with the politicians and pretending they are pro fishing, when in reality they want all uses of our waters to cease immediately. No more fishing, recreational or commercial, no water skiing, no boating, no houses on the shores, also no hunting, no hiking in the wild, NO NOTHING!
3: At John’s Pass, Spanish mackerel are still around the pass, but the bite is better a little further south. Pompano are still on the beaches. “This week some nice pompano were caught from the north jetty on Nekid Ball Jigz,” reports Dylan Hubbard of Hubbard’s Marina (727-393-1947). Snook fishing is still good around the docks inside John’s Pass on the outgoing tide. “The sheepshead bite is good and will only get better with the upcoming front,” reports Hubbard.
Anchor uptide of a bridge and hang a chum block off your stern to amass enticing bait schools and provide predators a scent trail to follow. Snapper will rise from the pilings, mackerel will swarm the area and you’ll probably raise a few cobia and sharks. Supplementing a chumline with freshly cut threadfin herring chunks can jumpstart a good bite.

“In addition to being a huge conservation tool that limits the chances of hooking a fish deeply, inline circle hooks actually catch more fish. When set properly, it’s difficult for a fish to shake it — and that provides great peace of mind when that tarpon, big snook or sailfish takes to the air.”
The Tampa, Clearwater, and Tampa Bay areas offer a broad array of Tampa and Clearwater fishing charters. Your Tampa fishing trip begins fishing along our beautiful, world class beaches for game fish like Snook, whose drag screaming runs and jumps will excite even veteran anglers. If redfish are your primary target, you can pursue these tough battlers out on the Tampa Bay fishing flats, or in tight against the mangroves or other shoreline structure. Speckled sea trout represent our most readily available game fish in Tampa, FL. Trout can be caught most times of the year and often, from late November to early April, in great abundance. During the spring and fall months, near shore Clearwater fishing, (2 – 9 miles out) offers the opportunity to catch a wide range of species including Spanish mackerel, mangrove snapper, kingfish, grouper, and others. Each year, the bait-rich waterways of the Gulf attract a wide roster of pelagics and other predatory fish. Surface feeders such as Kingfish, Barracuda, Permit and Dorado all prosper throughout the summer months. Although live bait is preferred, these drag-stripping machines will rarely resist a fine-looking ‘topwater’ either.
Inshore fishing trips are one of the best things to do in Panama City Beach, FL. Not only do you get to spend a beautiful day out on the water, but you get the chance to fill up your cooler with some great fish to take home.

Booked a 7a-11a trip with Captain Anthony. We arrived at 6:40 and he had his boat in the water and was all set to go. Anthony is very friendly and easy to talk to. He put us over a reef where we caught silver trout and some sea bass. He then took us to some vacant docks where we caught sea trout, pinfish, ladyfish, and multiple sheepshead. Fun trip, will hope to book another trip in the future.

For whatever reason, Tampa Bay is often unjustly overlooked as a premier fly fishing destination. It can certainly be hard to compete with the traditional heavyweights such as Homosassa and the Florida Keys. However, the relatively-untapped potential of the Bay should make it incredibly appealing to real fly enthusiasts everywhere.
5/18/2017: I’ve been to a number of fish camps and charter services. Home Run is the BEST! The captains will put you on fish and Evie will treat you like family. Cannot offer a higher Recommendation. Signage to direct guest off should improve.

When I’m having difficulty finding wind protection, and/or there’s good tidal flow, I also like to tie on a scented Vudu Shrimp on a Popping Cork. I’ve found Mid Coast Product’s Outcast 4″ and 3″ corks provide exceptional casting distance for casting up current and working it back down, suspending the shrimp anywhere from 18″ to 36″ inches below.
I have used the australian army ration pack spoon as a lure and have caught barramundi, saratoga, spanish mackeral, mangrove jack, G.T. , queenfish, cobia and school mackeral with it. Not many of each species, and this has been over the last 25 years. Always when the bite is on, it has a golden shine at first, but after a while it becomes a dull silver. Thats when it gets replaced with a new one
