Both are seasoned anglers, so it takes a lot to impress. They couldn’t say enough about the service, expert…ise & all-around great personalities of their guides. If I could give this 5 stars, I’d try to make it six.

What a great fishing trip, I was only in town for a couple days to move my son into his dorm , I called last minute , Chet was able to get me on the water and on the fish! My daughter was able to tag along. Caught numerous species of fish and in good numbers. Also saw plenty if extra… Had a manatee right under the boat, sharks and rays as well. Definitely will return for more!!!!

Capt Oliver knows how to fish the Tampa Bay! He was on time, his boat was clean, organized and working great. He put us right on the fish. I look forward to going out again for another day of fishing! Burton

Spring break and is winding down on St Pete beach  right now, but the fishing remains really good. We’ve caught snook trout and redfish fishing inshore and kings grouper and cobia on the offshore fishing charters. Some of the best trout fishing I’ve had was in early March. Several giant trout were caught. Most of […]

Basic light to medium tackle may be able to cover you sufficiently in most situations when fishing in freshwater. However, depending upon whether you happen to be deep sea fishing, drifting in a small skiff a half mile off the beach, surf fishing onshore or from a bridge or pier, you will need to carefully match your gear and technique to the circumstances at hand.

Another one of Florida’s staple game fish, this backcountry brawler thrives in virtually all parts of the Bay. The elusive Snook is caught anywhere from beaches to docks, mangroves, jetties and seawalls. Safe to say, it is uniquely flexible in finding itself a nourishing habitat.

Tampa fishing is getting into its stride. The big Tarpon are on their way! Almost everything is biting right now. The baitfish start to fill up the flats and both game fish and anglers follow in pursuit. Redfish and Snook fishing is hot.

We are currently running inshore and nearshore trips in a 2017 Hanson Skiff. Having a length of 23′, a width of 9′-6″, and a shallow draft, this vessel allows us to fish the inshore flats, the back country rivers, the deep channels of Tampa Bay, and nearshore reefs. Yes, please meet Captain Mike Anderson. Born and raised in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, on June 9, 1968, Captain Mike was introduced to fishing at a very young age. Reared in a family of fishing enthusiasts, Mike joined his father and uncle on a regular basis throughout his childhood, as they would cast for walleye, muskie and perch.

At the end of the day, fishing in Tampa Bay is always more than just the sum of its parts. The bay supports a vibrant ecosystem abundant with wildlife, endemic species and all sorts of unique natural wonders.

7 At St. Petersburg, “Sheepshead are still all over the place. All the canal docks, rock piles, bridges, and jetties are holding them. Fiddler crabs and shrimp fished with light tackle is the key for these fish,” reports Larry Mastry of Mastry’s Tackle (727-896-8889). The trout bite has picked up off Pinellas Point. Offshore, there’s a good hogfish bite north of the shipping channel in 50 feet of water, Mastry says.

When the fish are thick, tip a bare jig with a live fiddler crab and it’s pompano fireworks. Pomps may bite one-here-one-there, but more often than not, you’ll have to search several pilings to find the mother lode. Do your looking with jigs and hit the school with fiddlers.

Although high-grade conventional saltwater reels and rods provide the necessary backbone for big game anglers fishing offshore, those who are just beginning to fish in saltwater are better off starting out with a quality medium weight spinning combo. Unless you are already well versed in the art of casting a conventional reel, a spinning reel will help you to cast further while avoiding the frustrating backlashes and bird’s nests that are inherent with conventional gear. A quality spinning combo that is rated for 10 to 25 test line will also cover you in a variety of different venues from surf and pier fishing to drifting in bays or intertidal estuaries.
