All together, Tampa Bay Charter’s fishing captains have nearly 90 years of not just local fishing experience but actual CHARTER FISHING experience in Tampa Bay! And, all of the listed captains  have been fishing Tampa Bay waters well before deciding to guide others to these exciting sport fish. These years of experience make a huge difference in you having a successful and exciting Tampa Bay fishing charter. Tampa Bay Charter captains are all independent owner/operators and don’t work on or run someone else’s boat. They’re in the business of keeping their clients on the fish and having happy repeat clients for years to come. While fishing with your captain, you’ll benefit from him networking with other captains on the water to assure you’ll be where the bite is on and rods are bent…

8 In the north end of Tampa Bay, “The sheepshead bite remains good. Rock piles, oyster bars, bridge pilings, and anything with barnacles are holding them. I’m fishing for them with pinched shrimp on a jig head,” reports Capt. Jake Whitfield Florida Outdoor Adventures (813-997-5980). Black drum up to 24 inches are also mixed in with the sheepshead. Trout are biting shrimp fished under a popping cork in deeper water of the creeks. Some “rat” redfish are also in the same areas, Whitfield says.

I’ve found the Paddle Tail to be an essential staple in my tackle box, especially for moving water/current in daytime conditions. I also find it effective when jigging or dead sticking on the bottom. I’ve tried DOA, Slayer, and Matrix Shad brands, and prefer Matrix for the action even if they may not be the most durable (they’re also pretty affordable, you can order them in bulk from their website for something like 30 cents a bait).

June is just a few days away, and the Tarpon Fishing trips are going too be Good!!! If you haven’t caught the Silver King yet June and July are your chance to tangle with this beast from the sea. Plastic is poisoning our planet. There is nearly as much plastic in the oceans as fish and Costa is doing its part to turn the tide. Aside from cleaning up our own, Costa initiated the Kick Plastic Guide Program to help guides and captains find alternatives to single use plastic water bottles. No one wants to live in a plastic sea.

Snook, Red Fish, Trout, Tarpon (When in Season – See Tarpon Rates), Drum and anything else that’s chewing depending on the time of year. The Flats Fishing around Tampa Bay and St. Petersburg, FL is Legendary!

St.Pete Beach fishing has been providing plenty of action for anglers visiting this area. Tarpon, Snook, Redfish, trout, and sharks have all been around and willing to bite over the last few weeks. Tarpon fishing is starting to get good, the fish were a little late this year, but they are finally here and the bite is getting better daily. Tarpon fishing trips are limited to only one trip per day as it is a full day charter. Snook, Redfish, and Trout are also providing a steady bite on the inshore flats around ft.desoto park. Live sardine have been abundant and the fish are willing to strike. If you have kids the small sharks have been around they they loving them! Give me a call if you want to get out

To get the most out of Snook fishing in Tampa Bay, you’ll want to target the beaches, residential docks and mangrove shorelines. Stocking the livewell with pilchards or scaled sardines (their favorite) is always a good choice. If you prefer artificials, plugs and jigs typically do the job just as well.

4 At Fort DeSoto Park, the sheepshead bite is still pretty good around the bridges and any area with structure. Lots of “rat” redfish are still being caught around the park. There are also a lot of small trout up to 14 inches being caught. “There’s a good amount of snook around, but the cold weather has made them lethargic. They’ve got lockjaw,” reports Capt. Claude Hinson, of the Bait Bucket (727-864-2108).

If you ever battled a Tarpon before, you know this is one durable trophy fish. Most fights last from 20 to 40 minutes, although you should try and end the struggle as soon as possible. Other than ensuring the fish’s survival, this also helps in avoiding the sharks. The toothy critters are hardly scarce around here.

But why is that exactly? What is it about the greater Tampa Bay area that makes it one of the nation’s most prolific fish traps? Well, as it turns out, being the largest open-water estuary in all of the Sunshine State definitely comes with its perks.

So we put this video together to show exactly how to spool a spinning reel with braided line like a pro because the last thing you want to do is spool your spinning reel up the wrong way and get wind knots.

We have been doing Tarpon Charters in Tampa Bay for many years, we have also fished Boca Grande Pass as well, and our customers know the Tarpon Bite in Tampa Bay is just as good as Boca Grande. Actually, most that have fished both Tampa Bay & Boca Grande will tell you the bite in Tampa Bay is even better with more opportunities to actually Land a Giant Tarpon.

This has been a cold year thus far as fronts have blasted the Tampa Bay area. Now things are beginning to warm up, and the transition from winter to spring begins. Every warm day takes us one step closer to some awesome fishing. As water temperatures…

Over the past decade or so, the circle hook has become increasingly popular because it tends to hook up in the corner of the fish’s mouth rather than ending up hooked deep in the gullet, which greatly decreases the chances of a successful live release.

At the end of the day, fishing in Tampa Bay is always more than just the sum of its parts. The bay supports a vibrant ecosystem abundant with wildlife, endemic species and all sorts of unique natural wonders.
