What a great fishing trip, I was only in town for a couple days to move my son into his dorm , I called last minute , Chet was able to get me on the water and on the fish! My daughter was able to tag along. Caught numerous species of fish and in good numbers. Also saw plenty if extra… Had a manatee right under the boat, sharks and rays as well. Definitely will return for more!!!!

Tampa offers inshore, backwater, and flats fisherman shots at redfish, snook, sea trout, black drum, flounder, snapper, and many other local favorites throughout the year. Seasonally, we also get the Tarpon migration and better shots at pelagic species such as mackerel and cobia. Even big game fisherman who love to fight on light tackle will find shots at grouper and sharks to be abundant.
Night fishing is great for targeting Tarpon around bridges or chasing after Snook underneath the dock lights. Either way, a demand for this fishing niche has been welcomed by light tackle and fly fishermen alike.
I caught some of the biggest pompano I’ve ever seen with St. Petersburg skipper Capt. Paul Hawkins. Targeting one of the smaller bridges on the Sunshine Skyway’s approach section, Hawkins worked the upcurrent side during an incoming tide and switched to the downcurrent side when we returned later in the day to fish the outgoing water.
Bring the whole family, we offer great times and lasting memories on every charter! Specializing in light tackle, trolling, and bottom fishing in search of Tarpon, Snook, Redfish, Trout, Cobia, Snapper, Grouper, Kingfish, Shark and Mackerel among many other species on beautiful and abundant Tampa Bay, Florida.
It was a great time Scott! Thank you for coming and thank you for the review. I hope I will be able to take you on another Tampa Fishing Charter in the future. Capt. Steve Betz Tampa Flats and Bay Fishing Charters

Summer is winding down, Hurricane Hermine just came through and we are ready for cooler weather and some good Fall fishing. This summer started with some of the best snook fishing I’ve had in years. Fishing the flats, passes and beaches produced big numbers of fish and big fish as well. Our best snook fishing […]
There are several types and designs that can be highly effective when used in saltwater. They include, but are not limited to, hard baits like plugs, poppers and spoons and soft baits such as plastic swimbaits, grubs and slugs. The latter category also includes recently developed biodegradable baits like Berkley GULP!, which incorporate pheromone-based scents that chemically provoke a feeding response in fish.
And Pinellas County doesn’t have a monopoly on piers. In south Tampa, Picnic Island and Ballast Point fishing piers can be hot spots. The Ballast Point pier reaches far out into Tampa Bay. With a picturesque view of the downtown Tampa skyline, it has plenty of room for anglers.
One of the area’s true salts, Hawkins taught me an important tactical point: Fishing a bridge doesn’t necessarily mean hugging the structure. There are times when pompano and other species will feed close to the structure, but consider that the eddies spun by flowing tides can create feeding scenarios 100 yards from the pilings.
Reel Water Charters Offers both Inshore Fishing & Tarpon Fishing Charters in and around the Tampa Bay, and St. Petersburg area. Covering the West central section including St. Pete Beach, Ft. Desoto, Treasure Island Beach, Anna Maria, Tampa,Fl., and the surrounding areas. Captain Kyle Nifong’s knowledge of the surrounding waters is the key to finding the fish that you desire to catch.
Remarks: red drum are an INSHORE species until they attain roughly 30 inches (4 years), then they migrate to join the NEARSHORE population; spawning occurs from August to November in NEARSHORE waters; sudden cold snaps may kill red drum in shallow, INSHORE waters; feeds on crustaceans, fish and mollusks; longevity to 20 years or more.
4 At Fort DeSoto Park, the sheepshead bite is still pretty good around the bridges and any area with structure. Lots of “rat” redfish are still being caught around the park. There are also a lot of small trout up to 14 inches being caught. “There’s a good amount of snook around, but the cold weather has made them lethargic. They’ve got lockjaw,” reports Capt. Claude Hinson, of the Bait Bucket (727-864-2108).
Cold water Fishing in Tampa Bay – Tampa Bay Fishing Report What a weird weather pattern we’ve dealt with these past few weeks; one week it’s really cold like we’re in the North pole and then it’s back to normal with temps in the mid 60’s to lower 70’s. A lot of people asked what more…

Cockroach Bay and Bishop's Harbor are both good fishing spots, located in the middle of Tampa Bay. Deeper channels between the islands just outside of Skyway Bridge near the south shore of lower Tampa Bay are also good fishing spots.

Other anglers say that inshore fishing is anything within 3 miles of shore, while others say it’s based on the kind of fish you are catching (but I’ve seen people catch pelagics in a few feet of water so this can’t always hold true).
