Recreational fishermen usually fish either from a boat or from a shoreline or river bank. When fishing from a boat, or fishing vessel, most fishing techniques can be used, from nets to fish traps, but some form of angling is by far the most common. Compared to fishing from the land, fishing from a boat allows more access to different fishing grounds and different species of fish.
I started the month off on vacation fishing in Venice, Louisiana catching Bull Redfish in the 40” range. These fish are hard pulling and don’t give up. Every year I like to make a fishing trip to Louisiana as they have some amazing fishing there. This year has been the toughest year yet, but I was still able to catch some of the big bulls they have!
I have previously been with Capt Steve of Tampa Flats and Bay Fishing Charters on several inshore trips in Tampa Bay targeting Snook, Redfish, Trout, Mackerel, and Mangrove Snapper. This time we went to the Gulf to target Kingfish and Grouper. It was a beautiful…More
Inshore fishing this week in the Clearwater beach area has been Great, and the weather has been outstanding. In the last couple of fishing trips this week we have caught trout, redfish, snook, and big bluefish. Fishing should remain good over the next few weeks with similar conditions but I expect the triple tail to show up in the coming weeks. Give me a call if you would like to get a trip set up. – Capt.Jared (727)831-0111 www.CaptJared.com
Stretching out at around 400 square miles, Tampa Bay is the largest open water estuary system in the state of Florida. It is also considered one of the world’s most productive natural ecosystems. This is due to the fact that this type of estuary is one where saltwater from the Gulf of Mexico and freshwater feeds from all along the coast mix. It is here where several species of gamefish, baitfish, and crustaceans spend their critical stages of development protected from larger open water predators.
The Intracoastal waters of Clearwater, St. Petersburg and Tarpon Springs add to your potential catch of redfish, snook, grouper, pompano, sheepshead, spotted seatrout and Spanish mackerel. A few fights with a jack, ladyfish or gafftopsail catfish will keep the day lively while the mild climate provides for favorable fishing conditions year-round.
The snook (aka Linesider) might be more of a Florida inshore fish, but it certainly deserves a place in the ultimate inshore fishing guide because it is one of the most popular saltwater game fish in the “Fishing Capital of the World”.

The wind finally stopped blowing so hard that we couldn’t go offshore. Water temperatures were still in the low 50s offshore at the beginning of the week, and this affected fish behavior. Because the water was calm, we ventured out to the 80- to 90-f…

The first edition was structured to be a basic reference, and was used widely by Captain Mel Berman as his seminar workbook because of its broad collection of topics. This title is out of print due to changing publishers, but the revised edition, which I’ve drastically added to its content in detail, will be published in the near future.
These structures provide fish much-needed shade, good ambush points with current dynamics and lots of forage species. More or less an emergent reef, a bridge gives anglers a clear target to fish and the ability to move up or down a few pilings to locate the bite. Common targets include tarpon, cobia, pompano, snapper, grouper, sheepshead, redfish, black drum, speckled trout and snook. Spanish mackerel and bluefish make seasonal appearances, and ladyfish are always a possibility.
Captain Greg Doherty is a USCG licensed captain who has a passion for all things fishing. There is nothing that will get your blood pumping than watching a 20 lb snook push “A-Wake” in the shape of a V behind your top water lure, and then hearing the “Drag” screaming as the fish bolts for the nearest cover…

Basic light to medium tackle may be able to cover you sufficiently in most situations when fishing in freshwater. However, depending upon whether you happen to be deep sea fishing, drifting in a small skiff a half mile off the beach, surf fishing onshore or from a bridge or pier, you will need to carefully match your gear and technique to the circumstances at hand.
