Tampa offers inshore, backwater, and flats fisherman shots at redfish, snook, sea trout, black drum, flounder, snapper, and many other local favorites throughout the year. Seasonally, we also get the Tarpon migration and better shots at pelagic species such as mackerel and cobia. Tampa Bay fishing has also been steady with anglers catching Snook, Snapper, and trout while fishing out of the Gandy boat Ramp. Snook are still out of season but are awesome to target for hard pulling runs, and there wild jumps! Snapper are hanging around the bridge and we have been catching them during the slower tide periods. Trout have been tearing up the bait fish school over the grass flats and some days it can be almost every cast!!

The keys here are deeper water, cooler water, moving water, more oxygenated water, and low light. One of these elements is good, two are better, three or four are the best. Weather fronts also stimulate and energize fish, so fishing just before a front is usually good.

Midsummer is here and fishing can be very productive! Early mornings and late evenings are the best time to go fishing this month. Trout are hiding in the deeper water, whilst Snapper can be all over the Tampa Bay area.

You will be fishing in a state of the art, 2005, custom-built, 24 foot Sheaffer boat. The big boy of the bunch, the Sunshine Skyway Bridge spans the mouth of Tampa Bay and links Pinellas to Manatee County. The original was demolished years ago after a phosphate barge hit one of the main span pilings during a squall. The north and southbound approach lanes were capped and converted into state park fishing piers.

The Ed Alber Tarpon Rodeo Tournament has come! Tarpon are the star of the show. Redfish are all over the flats and mangrove shorelines. Spanish Mackerel and Mangrove Snapper invade the bay and Trout are feeding on the grass flats.
