Saltwater Hook Up is a saltwater fishing charter providing trips all throughout the waters of Boca Grande and Great Tampa Bay. Saltwater Hook Up’s captain, Rich Andretta, specializes in trophy fishing in both inshore and offshore waters. Captain Rich is happy to help teach novices and to support experienced anglers. Saltwater Hook Up’s boat is a custom 25- foot Marauder Marine Avenger Bay boat, well known for its stability and room, making it ideal for anglers of all ages, from children to seniors.

Throughout most of the year, the species are caught in very shallow grass flats, up to 3ft. deep. Even though most fisheries go in deep hibernation during the winter months, the tailing Reds of Tampa Bay remain very much active. That said, they usually migrate to deeper waters at this time, normally between 4 and 8 feet.

You will not find friendlier, more patient guides that consistently put you on fish anywhere on the planet. The fact that they have teamed up is a great thing for every fly fisher heading to the Tampa area in need of a guide. You won’t go wrong. I give these guys two thumbs up.

Tampa Bay is fed by well over a 100 inland tributaries. In these you will find brackish water rivers and creeks that allow for some of the best backcountry fishing action in the state. This also provides temperate waters for game fish to congregate in when water temps change in the bay.

Tampa Bay fishing charters have been catching lots of Snook, a few reds, and limits of trout. The bay fishing is about to get really good as soon as the first cold fronts hit and the fish push into the bay, and for the anglers that will be here for this we will have 50-100 fish days fishing for snook and reds.

Near the end of the pier, Kevin Chiem is using a sabiki rig to catch greenbacks for bait. Chiem, 30, is a Skyway pier regular. He travels from Tampa at least once a week to see what’s biting in some of the most active water a Tampa Bay fishing pier has to offer.

If it swims, it’s in these waters. The Bay provides such a wide variety of aquatic life, it’s not uncommon to bag more than a dozen species on any given outing. The mighty Snook prowls the mangrove shorelines. Schools of tailing Redfish rest on the glassy grass flats. And the notorious Florida Tarpon roam the Bay’s endless passes. Whatever you’re after, it’s never more than a cast away.

The net affect of this weather was that all Tampa Fishing Guides got a whole lot more vacation days than planned over the course of the last month. On the coldest days, sheepshead were the only logical target.  Although good to eat, the cold air and limited species selection kept most anglers off the water anyway. For those who ventured out, fishing shrimp or small crabs up under docks or against bridge pilings was the ticket.

Night fishing is always a bonus, as bridge lights attract baitfish, which draw in predators. From June through October, tarpon patrol the shadowlines of most Tampa Bay bridges and anglers drifting live baitfish or accurately casting MirrOlures, D.O.A. Baitbusters and swimbaits will put a few nocturnal ‘poons in the air.

The extensive AA log of shows is diverse and quite unpredictable, From AA‘s sickness for spotted fish in “Spotted Fever” to using chicken wire shark cages in “Shark Island”, the over 200 episodes have brought colorful stories, high seas adventure and unique Florida history to the aqua-tube!

Not only is fishing during the night convenient, it also makes sense. Most species are nocturnal and prefer to feed when the sun comes down. This rings especially true during the hottest months of the year.

First up on the list, Spotted Seatrout is quite likely the most abundant sport fish in all of Tampa Bay. unlike Redfish, Trout is great to eat and can be found rummaging the shallow flats all throughout the year. They also like drifting to deeper waters (up to 15ft) during the cooler months.

Be it Tampa, St Pete, Clearwater, Bradenton or Sarasota, there’s no shortage of hotspots that fish well throughout the calendar year.
