Strong pro-ethanol advocates are pushing the Obama Administration and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to increase ethanol levels in gasoline to 15% (E15). As you may have read in BoatUS Magazine, ethanol at the currently allowed 10% (E10) level has been shown to cause significant problems for some marine engines and boat fuel systems. Yes sir, you missed one for sure, never leave without at least one Bill Lewis RAT-L-TRAP. I find the gold chrome with a black back or silver chrome with a blue back catches a ton of fish. 1/2 or 5/8 ounce size is about right..

Offshore boat fishing, sometimes called deep sea or open water fishing, is fishing in deep water (more than 30 metres) and at some distance from land. It is dangerous compared to shallow water or lake fishing. More knowledge is needed about weather patterns, navigation and safety precautions, and this is not an activity for beginners.

Saltwater fishing boats are typically larger and designed for coastal and offshore fishing, such as sport and open fishermen boats, center consoles, and power catamarans decked and rigged for fishing.

Other anglers say that inshore fishing is anything within 3 miles of shore, while others say it’s based on the kind of fish you are catching (but I’ve seen people catch pelagics in a few feet of water so this can’t always hold true).

Saltwater fishing is a broad term used to describe the method of fishing in the ocean. Saltwater fishing can be done on shore (surf fishing), on a boat or on a pier. Live bait and artificial bait are used by saltwater anglers, which varies based on the type of fish the angler is trying to catch. Saltwater fishing is only available in states/countries that border an ocean or have an inlet river with a high level of salinity. Some of the greatest fighting fish are saltwater fish, such as the tuna or marlin. Saltwater fishing provides some of the best fishing experiences an angler can ever have.

Captain Kevin Walton is a sixth-generation Floridian with considerable experience in back-country fishing, flats fishing, and beach fishing. He earned his license in 2001 and has since then been running charters with fishers of all ages and experience levels.

Extending over 400 square miles and fed by the emerald waters of the Gulf of Mexico, the entire bay and its tributaries act as a reliably diverse game fish nursery. This alone is already a feat in and of itself. As any seasoned angler will attest, most top-tier fisheries struggle with maintaining the variety of its celebrated fish stock. Tampa Bay’s massive ecosystem, on the other hand, plays host to pretty much all of the state’s favorite bruisers. When locals say there’s something in these waters for everyone, you better be sure they mean it.

Is one better than the other? Absolutely not. Some people prefer to be close to land while others love seeing 360 degrees of horizon around them. Preference plays a huge part, but it’s just one of many.

  1. Morris says:

Capt. Chet is by far the best guide in Tampa Bay. I utilized his services to organize several tournaments, including hiring 12 to 15 other guides, and even though we left the dock last and came back first, we consistently outfished the other boats. He is THE capt that other capt’s reach out to when they can’t find the bait or the fish. And he delivers in challenging conditions – the last time we fished together, a late front moved through in May and the wind was howling. Capt. Chet knew of several holes in the mangroves that produced many reds and snook. My next visit to Tampa will for sure include a day on the water with Capt. Chet.
We have finally had a couple good cold fronts push through and hang around long enough to cool the water temperatures throughout the bay. As we move towards December, we will sometimes switch gears and do some different types of fishing. Speckled Trout, Flounder, and Sheepshead are a few of my favorites that are great to fish for during the winter months.
