The flats and back bays are abundant with Redfish. When the tide is low, you can see their spotted tails on top of the water. Aren’t they just perfect for sight fishing? If you know where to look, you can also catch your late-season Tarpon.
10/9/09 Everyone needs to go here and read this. http://www.sportfishingmag.com/blog.jsp?blogID=300 For those who choose not to believe that the enviro groups have an agenda to stop fishing, pay close attention. For those who don’t believe that EDF, OC, and other enviro groups are working hard in other areas to stop fishing and then will bring that effort home, pay close attention.
December Fishing Report for the Clearwater, Clearwater Beach, St.Pete Beach, and Tampa Bay Area. We have been targeting Trout, Redfish, and Snook for most of December with good results. Live shrimp, Sardines, and Artificial lures have been working. Most days we are just doing half day charters, but a few anglers have been doing full days. Here are some pics from recently.

We have just got our first cold front here in Florida as I write this report. Earlier this week leading up to the front we had some outstanding fishing for reds, trout and snook! I fished with a few different groups, and had a couple multi boat charters with Capt. Mike Cole, and Capt.Ethan Kiburz. Fishing out of Clearwater beach for most of my charter trips we targeted all three species fishing live baits around islands and docks inshore. We caught several redfish, snook, and trout all on light tackle spinning rods with 15lb test line. Tampa bay fishing was really good as well as we did a few days targeting snook in the back country waters in the bay to avoid the windy weather. Here’s some of the pic’s from this past week’s fishing trips.
I offer charters for individuals and groups up to 6 persons. For larger groups over 6 up to 12 persons a second Captain and boat can be arranged to handle the additional passengers and both boats can fish near each other so the group can interact during the charter. My rates are based on your group size making your experience affordable for all. You have the boat to yourself and won’t be sharing it with others you do not know. I do charge for non-fishing passengers but not for children under the age of 6.
The best time to fish for snook is the beginning of spring through early summer. Canals, small, deep channels and lighted docks draw in snook to feed. Huge numbers of large fish are taken from the Port Manatee channel in Tampa Bay.
Terry Tomalin, the Tampa Bay Times’ larger-than-life outdoors editor, traveled Florida and the world to take readers on extraordinary adventures. He died on May 19 after suffering a heart attack. He was 55.

Recreational fishermen usually fish either from a boat or from a shoreline or river bank. When fishing from a boat, or fishing vessel, most fishing techniques can be used, from nets to fish traps, but some form of angling is by far the most common. Compared to fishing from the land, fishing from a boat allows more access to different fishing grounds and different species of fish.
Whether you are sight-fishing inshore for spooky redfish, bonefish or permit or troll offshore for hard-striking billfish, saltwater fishing can take a toll on your tackle. The superior strength of saltwater species combined with saltwater’s high corrosive effects mean you need the best tackle you can afford for continuous success. At TackleDirect, we carry saltwater fishing rods, reels, lures, lines and tackle that will stand up to blazing sun, stormy seas and the natural aggressiveness of the denizens of the deep.
Locate the parks, agencies, and municipalities that manage facilities with access to the water. Rules and fees that apply to facilities differ widely, so make sure you check with the appropriate authority before you travel. Also, check the Artificial Reefs webpage to identify where New York’s artificial fishing and diving reefs are located.
Our top choice is the old Sunshine Skyway Bridge over Tampa Bay, which became the world’s longest fishing pier after a 1980 disaster wiped out the center section of the bridge. Depending upon season and how far out you go, the bridge offers a chance to catch everything from snook, tarpon, grouper, black sea bass, Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, cobia, sheepshead, red snapper and pompano.
As the weather gets warmer, sometimes it’s just more fun to wade fish. Grab a pair of sneakers and light fishing tackle, then cast into the channels that cut through lush seagrass beds. Be careful not to trample through seagrasses though – they’re critical habitat for almost nearly every fish in Tampa Bay.
Tampa Bay is Florida’s largest open-water estuary, extending over 400 square miles and forming coastlines of Hillsborough, Manatee and Pinellas counties. The freshwater sources of the bay are distributed among over a hundred small tributaries, rather than a single river. The bay bottom is silty and sandy, with an average water depth of only about 12 feet.
