My intent was to offer the kind of service that I would expect from a top quality, professional, guide. I would cater my trips to the age and skill level of those on my boat to maximize my customer’s enjoyment. Most importantly, I would let my passion and intensity for catching fish show each and every time on the water. My commitment is to provide all of my customers with this type of experience.

Later in the coming month, tides heights will start to improve.  This, coupled with warming waters, will improve local redfishing.  With fish still wanting to get warmer, look for them around oyster bars on the higher tides as well as up on the flats in areas with potholes during the warmer parts of the day.  Until cold leaves for good, generally around the middle of March, redfish will respond best to crustaceans such as shrimp.  When the warm settles in, they’ll eat just about anything.

Major Cold Front puts fish in winter mode – Tampa Bay Fishing Re – We had a major cold front on Monday and it was about time. Since this cold weather is supposed to stick around for the next two weeks, it’s going to finally put the fish in their winter patterns and fire off the sheepshead bite. Right now the bait more…

I am looking to know more about inshore fishing. I was unaware that the main difference between inshore and offshore fishing was the depth of the water. It would be good to consider which fish one is seeking and then plan a fishing trip accordingly.

Basic light to medium tackle may be able to cover you sufficiently in most situations when fishing in freshwater. However, depending upon whether you happen to be deep sea fishing, drifting in a small skiff a half mile off the beach, surf fishing onshore or from a bridge or pier, you will need to carefully match your gear and technique to the circumstances at hand.

Inshore fishing trips are one of the best things to do in Panama City Beach, FL. Not only do you get to spend a beautiful day out on the water, but you get the chance to fill up your cooler with some great fish to take home.

“I have been fishing with Jason for a number of years and have been on multiple trips! We have never been disappointed with his ability to put us on fish!! Even got my son on the cover of a magazine with his prized snook. Can’t say enough great things about Capt. Jason! ”

Thank you Roland and Sharon for coming. It was great seeing you both again and I hope you will be back the next time are in Florida for a Tampa Fishing Charter. Take care and have safe travels! Capt Steve Betz

Cockroach Bay and Bishop's Harbor are both good fishing spots, located in the middle of Tampa Bay. Deeper channels between the islands just outside of Skyway Bridge near the south shore of lower Tampa Bay are also good fishing spots.

5 Around the Sunshine Skyway and lower Tampa Bay, sheepshead are all over the Skyway Bridge area and the approach bridges. Flounder are pretty solid in the South Skyway area. Spanish mackerel have started to show up at the north and south piers. “The tripletail have moved in thick. Look for them on all the crab pots and markers all the way into the bay,” reports Capt. Shawn Crawford of Florida Sport Fishing Outfitters of Bradenton (941-705- 3160).

Description: dark stripe (variably present) extends from nose to in front of dorsal fin and “lights up” when fish is in feeding mode; no scutes; soft dorsal base less than twice the length of the anal fin base.

Preserve the Experience for Others – The only way we can sustain commercial and recreational fishing in the future is to work together. Use a circle hook when fishing to prevent injury to the fish. We like the Gamakatsu Octopus Circle Hook, but if you have a barb hook then you can simply crush it with some needle nose pliers. Never keep your catch out of the water longer than you can hold your own breath. The slime that covers a fish protects it from bacteria and infection, so do your best to not remove this slime. Also, don’t forget to practice catch and release, especially during spawning seasons!

Everyone’s favorite bycatch, fishing for Flounder is a year-long festival. This is one species where double digit hook-ups are often considered the norm on a good day. Often joining them on a dinner plate, Pompano is considered a worthy opponent by most veteran fisherfolk. They’re usually scouted along the beaches or near the bridge pilings, depending on the season.

Captain Betz – Flats and Bay Fishing Charters are the Best… My friends and I come down from Atlanta each year for the Falcons vs Bucs for football, golf, and fishing. Besides the game, fishing with Captain Betz is the highlight of our trip. Not…More

“I’ll rig all tackle, baits and/or lures the day or evening prior to a trip, so when I set forth, my job is to hunt for the signs that will lead us to fish. Refuse to get distracted by rigging tackle or baits on the way to the grounds. When you hit the water, you should be 100 percent focused on signs that will lead you to fish.”

Had a blast today out on the water. Kept us out of the rain and we pulled in some keepers. Great guys that I will definitely get in touch with next ur when I come back down. Looking forward to another… trip already!!! Thanks again guys!!! See More

NOTE: Many marine species are managed on a coast-wide basis with seasons and limits required by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission. Those regulations must then be approved by our state’s Marine Fisheries Council. The Council usually addresses these issues at their March meeting with the management measures becoming effective in mid- to late April or early May. The Marine Digest is normally published in May; the 2017 edition will be available in July. Regulations remain in effect until changed.

Offshore boats are generally much larger than inshore boats, and may need to be moored in a marina. They are sturdily constructed so they can brave the weather and water conditions encountered in open waters. Though they differ in design and purpose and prices vary widely they are generally expensive to build and maintain. Most offshore recreational fishermen charter boats rather than own them. It is often a pastime of the affluent, and there is a demand for charter boats equipped and catered to luxurious excess.

I took a quick glance at my website to make sure everything was working and up to date and noticed I hadn’t posted in quite a while, and then looked at how many trips I have run this calendar year … Continue reading →
