As he got older he picked up inshore fishing. It wasn’t as easy as the old ponds in the neighborhood, but he learned quickly, researching info, techniques and learning Tampa Bay’s estuary. From North to South of the Bay, he knows where to go to put you on fish.

Tampa Bay has had a great Snapper and Snook bite with a few mackerel and sharks being caught as well. Snapper fishing around the bay bridges and public reefs around near Down town St.Pete or off Macdill air force base have been providing plenty of snapper over the 10” keeper size limit, and for there size these fish pull hard! Snook fishing in the bay has been decent, but not crazy good. Most of the fish have been in the mid 20” range. For the anglers wanting sharks there have been a good number of sharks patrolling the bait schools throughout the bay.

Snook season is closed currently, but make great catch and reason action. Redfish have been a around and in good numbers. My husband, my 12 year old daughter and I booked a 3/4 day fishing trip with capt. Chet and had a brilliant day. We have been coming to Tampa/Clearwater for the last 5 years and have booked various private charters but this trip was definitely the best we’ve had! Capt Chet was very patient and accommodating with our daughter and had her catching fish all day. We stopped over a spot and were constantly catching jack crevalle, trout and mackerel. My husband really wanted to try and catch a tarpon so Chet took us to a spot where he thought was our best chance to catch one but unfortunately we had no luck. We are back in sept and will definitely be booking another trip with Chet!

It’s also lit at night, so you can fish during the cooler hours of the evening or early morning. Even in the middle of the day, though, ts location at the mouth of the bay means there’s almost always a breeze and it’s easy to put up a tent for shade.
Take a ride through Fort DeSoto Bridge into Boca Ciega Bay. In this area you’ll find the Cow and Calf spoil islands and Jackass Key on the western side of the bay. Each of these locations holds large schools of redfish.

“Had a great time fishing with Capt Jason. Jason put us on the fish and it was non-stop action right from the moment we put our lines in the water. Myself, my 17 yr old daughter, and her friend just hooked fish after fish. Reds, spanish mackerel, jacks, sea trout, and silver trout just to name a few. Capt Jason put us on a school of reds that just wore us out!”

Clearwater beach area we have been targeting Snook, Redfish, and Trout and the action has been consistent with a few snook being caught, tons of trout, and good numbers of Redfish! We have typically been targeting snook in the early moring before the water gets to hot, then moving on to the trout and redfish depending on the tides.
