If you are a boater, fisherman, diver, either recreational or commercial or if you care about our energy resources and other natural resources that are available in or from the oceans then you should be VERY concerned over this ‘National Ocean Policy”.

And Pinellas County doesn’t have a monopoly on piers. In south Tampa, Picnic Island and Ballast Point fishing piers can be hot spots. The Ballast Point pier reaches far out into Tampa Bay. With a picturesque view of the downtown Tampa skyline, it has plenty of room for anglers.

Thank you very much for the review. The fishing has been outstanding this month and I am glad I was able to take you guys on a charter to be part of it. I hope you enjoy the fresh Trout fillets for Christmas Eve dinner….More

Anglers can document their fishing activities, compile their fishing data and plan more effective fishing trips. If you wish to use this online logbook, please register and log on online at the ACCSP web site. Check our ACCSP and Electronic Reporting web page for more information.

Clearwater Beach fishing has been good just before I left I was catching good numbers of redfish and trout. When I got back mid month we got right back to it with Redfish, Trout, Snook, mackerel, jacks, and many more species fishing the deep grass flats just inside Clearwater harbor and up around St. Joesph sound in Dunedin. Live sardine have been key to our success and they have been abundant, but small. We have even done a couple fly fishing trips lately, and we had no issues catching plenty of fish on the fly! If you want to do a fly trip just let me know.

Unless they happened to grow up or near a coastal region, most young anglers began fishing in a freshwater lake, river, creek or pond. In fact, small rural farm ponds can be excellent places to learn and perfect vital angling techniques like increasing your casting distance and proper lure or bait presentation.

Granted, there will be times when you won’t need a leader line while inshore fishing (like if the water massively dirty and dark with no structure around), but 90% of the time you will be better off using a leader while inshore fishing.

A 1⁄4-ounce jig set through the tail of a live shrimp and hopped across the bottom will turn up a diverse selection of bridge residents including redfish, flounder, cobia, sheepshead, black drum, gag grouper, mangrove snapper and juvenile tarpon. Probably the most popular jigging target in local waters is the pompano. Species-specific jigs such as Doc’s Goofy style or small, round-head bucktails tempt the golden nuggets.

September Fishing has been good! Hurricane Irma hit Florida hard, but didn’t hit Clearwater beach, St. Pete beach, or Tampa Bay. While many people lost power here I was on vacation in Venice,Louisiana catching Bull Redfish! I came home the second week of the month and the Snook, Redfish, trout, mackerel and many others were ready to bite, and the weather has been perfect with no wind or rain!

Vincent, Great question. I did do one charter where I had two customers that wanted to split a charter. I went ahead and made the arrangements for them to fish together with me. Unfortunately for them personality’s clashed… More

Florida Inshore Angler.com was created by Allen Applegarth to provide Florida inshore saltwater fishing anglers with saltwater fishing tips, saltwater fishing reports, how tos, fishing videos, fishing and boating related product reviews, and a forum for anglers and other outdoor activities such as camping and hunting.  A few years after establishing this saltwater fishing site in 2007, I decided to write another book based on Florida inshore fishing, fittingly named after this site.  Depending on my available time limitations, my new title should be published in 2013-14.

Winter Time Fishing In Tampa Bay! – Fishing in Tampa Bay is still pretty good despite the cold weather. Fortunately, the water temperature hasn’t dropped too much yet and there is still plenty of bait around. Some days the fish will chew great and other days they just won’t eat more…

It’s crazy that different types of lures work on many of the same fish. I really like the look of the white bucktail. I will have to ask my dad if he has ever been saltwater fishing, and what lures he used.

Snook clearly represent the class of the inshore game fish. Their speed, strong runs and occasional jumps make them the fish of choice for many Florida anglers. Snook are available year round; however the cooler, winter water temperatures slow their metabolisms significantly and make them a difficult target during our coldest months. A wide range of artificial and natural baits can be used to catch snook. The most commonly used method is live baiting with scaled sardines or “whitebait”. However, be sure to review all current fishing regulations before keeping any Snook as this species is heavily protected. Spring and fall fishing typically takes place along inshore structure…river mouths, mangrove shorelines and residential docks. Come late spring, fish move out to the beaches, gather in larger groups and can be caught in greater numbers. During the hottest months of summer, fish tends to feed best during low light periods and at night.

Capt. Matt has not only put me on fish every time I have booked a charter – He got me my biggest tarpon ever 150+!!! He is the best Captain I have ever fished with and I recommend him highly. Always a great time and always finds the fish! -John Lashbrook

The Gulf of Mexico waters Tampa-side are home to some of the finest year-round fishing in the south. Hardly any angler could resist fishing in Tampa! The sugar sand beaches line countless miles of waterways, passes, open bays, acres of shallow grass flats, thousands of oyster bars, and dozens of rivers feeding into it. You instantly understand why Tampa fishing charters are so popular. This enormous natural estuary is one of the “Fishing capitals of the world”. But what makes fishing in Tampa so exciting?

“I have been out on a charter with Captain Jason several times this year. Have to say his Knowledge of the water ways is second to none. We Always come home with a boat full of fish & memories that will last a lifetime. I highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for a fishing charter.”
