Redfish schools have started to invade the flats. They have seemed to pass up the Skyway bridge area and head into upper Tampa Bay. I start early in the morning by throwing my 12-foot custom cast net under one of the many bridges. I pick the brightes…

If you are in the Tampa Bay area we can find a convenient place to meet for your charter. If you have a Tampa fishing charter or St. Petersburg fishing charter, we typically meet you by the magnificent Sunshine Skyway bridge at the top fishing marina in the bay area; O’Neill’s Marina where the custom built 2016 T Craft 24′ is stored on it’s private boat lift. Due to the versatility of the location, we can also arrange a pick up in downtown St Petersburg at Demens Landing Park, in Tampa at the Hula Bay Club, on the south shore of the bay in Apollo Beach, or across the bridge in Bradenton. If you have a Clearwater Fishing Charter then we are quick and easy access off of US 19 or 275.
The Hillsborough River is a time-tested producer along with surrounding ship basins. The mud flats at St. Pete Clearwater Airport are also fairly good. Fishing the deep flats at MacDill Air Force Base, Mermaid Point and Apollo Beach are all good choices, too.

Night fishing is great for targeting Tarpon around bridges or chasing after Snook underneath the dock lights. Either way, a demand for this fishing niche has been welcomed by light tackle and fly fishermen alike.
• Laws: Consult local or Coast Guard authorities for special navigation rules applicable to bridges in your area. The U.S. Coast Guard has relaxed its post 9-11 regulations limiting boat proximity to bridges. Currently, a 100-foot security zone applies to the Sunshine Skyway Bridge’s center span, its pilings, dolphins and rock abutments. All other rules of navigation still apply, but anglers are allowed to fish elsewhere along the Skyway and other area bridges. FS
Capt. Chet is by far the best guide in Tampa Bay. I utilized his services to organize several tournaments, including hiring 12 to 15 other guides, and even though we left the dock last and came back first, we consistently outfished the other boats. He is THE capt that other capt’s reach to when they can’t find the bait or the fish. And he delivers in challenging conditions – the last time we fished together, a late front moved through in May and the wind was howling. Capt. Chet knew of several holes in the mangroves that produced many reds and snook. My next visit to Tampa will for sure include a day on the water with Capt. Chet.
