Capt. Matt has not only put me on fish every time I have booked a charter – He got me my biggest tarpon ever 150+!!! He is the best Captain I have ever fished with and I recommend him highly. Always a great time and always finds the fish! -John Lashbrook

Had a busy second week fishing both the bay and Clearwater harbor area. Fishing was good with Redfish, Trout, Snook and Triple tail being caught. Early in the week I fished out of Safety harbor and we fished for snook and trout. Did good on both, middle of the week I fished for triple tail out of Dunedin Marina, and we started the day by running south along the stone crab traps looking for Triple tail. We ran down from Clearwater beach to sandy key, and made our way down to Johns pass and St.pete beach where we caught a 6 triple tail with 2 shorts, 2 just legal, and 2 jumbos. I finished off the week fishing back over in Dunedin Clearwater area catch trout and a few redfish.

Our top choice is the old Sunshine Skyway Bridge over Tampa Bay, which became the world’s longest fishing pier after a 1980 disaster wiped out the center section of the bridge. Depending upon season and how far out you go, the bridge offers a chance to catch everything from snook, tarpon, grouper, black sea bass, Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, cobia, sheepshead, red snapper and pompano.

We have just got our first cold front here in Florida as I write this report. Earlier this week leading up to the front we had some outstanding fishing for reds, trout and snook! I fished with a few different groups, and had a couple multi boat charters with Capt. Mike Cole,  and Capt.Ethan Kiburz.  Fishing out of Clearwater beach for most of my charter trips we targeted all three species fishing live baits around islands and docks inshore. We caught several redfish, snook, and trout all on light tackle spinning rods with 15lb test line. Tampa bay fishing was really good as well as we did a few days targeting snook in the back country waters in the bay to avoid the windy weather. Here’s some of the pic’s from this past week’s fishing trips.

Similarly, the original Gandy Bridge now serves as a biking/pedestrian route called the “Friendship Trail,” with lower catwalks extending from either end. The structures adjacent to the Gandy and Skyway bridges—along with dedicated fishing lanes on smaller spans like the Tierra Verde Bridge (south Pinellas)—give landbound anglers access to the bounty below.

Anglers (including those 65 and older) fishing in the Gulf of Mexico (excluding Monroe County) from a private boat, who plan to harvest, possess or land specific reef fish need to sign up to participate in the Gulf Reef Fish Survey.

Strong pro-ethanol advocates are pushing the Obama Administration and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to increase ethanol levels in gasoline to 15% (E15). As you may have read in BoatUS Magazine, ethanol at the currently allowed 10% (E10) level has been shown to cause significant for some marine engines and boat fuel systems. Click Here for more info

The first thing that fledgling saltwater anglers need to understand is the primary difference between fresh and saltwater fishing, which is inherent in the water itself. Adding salt to the equation can complicate things negatively in regard to the longevity of your gear when you do not maintain it properly.
