All together, Tampa Bay Charter’s fishing captains have nearly 90 years of not just local fishing experience but actual CHARTER FISHING experience in Tampa Bay! And, all of the listed captains  have been fishing Tampa Bay waters well before deciding to guide others to these exciting sport fish. These years of experience make a huge difference in you having a successful and exciting Tampa Bay fishing charter. Tampa Bay Charter captains are all independent owner/operators and don’t work on or run someone else’s boat. They’re in the business of keeping their clients on the fish and having happy repeat clients for years to come. While fishing with your captain, you’ll benefit from him networking with other captains on the water to assure you’ll be where the bite is on and rods are bent…

Although readily available year round, spring thru fall gives anglers the best chance to limit out on Snook. Their metabolism tends to slow down significantly during the cooler months. While they’ll still blast your plug every now and again, winter is typically better spent pursuing other species (see above!)

Captain Steve puts you on the fish. Our recent charter had us catching lot’s of trout, snook, red fish and even a bluefish. One of our snook was over 34″ with several trout over 20″. I have fished in Tampa for over 10 years with…More

The weather is perfect right now and the fishing is just about there as well. Bait fish like scaled sardines and threadfin hearing are all over our beaches and the fish are gorging themselves on them. My charters are getting there fill of Spanish Mackerel and the Kings are starting to show as well. I […]

Get your dose of Redfish when the fishing is still hot! The Snook bite is consistent on the outgoing tide with 20 to 24 inch class. Sheepshead and Mangrove Snapper are around the bridges and on the rock pile.

The Teramar rod series was created for anglers from two very different locations: the Southeast and the West Coast. As a result, we built two unique series in one. Southeastern anglers will find perfect rods for plug casting for snook, spinning on the flats or tarpon fishing under passes. West Coast anglers have an array of rods that includes trigger-stick casting rods for swim baits and jig sticks.

Yes sir, you missed one for sure, never leave without at least one Bill Lewis RAT-L-TRAP. I find the gold chrome with a black back or silver chrome with a blue back catches a ton of fish. 1/2 or 5/8 ounce size is about right..

With the increase of fishing technology and the amount of people in the Tampa fishing community how are our fisheries responding? I come from 4 generations of professional fishermen. As far as I can determine, my family started fishing the Tampa Bay area in the 1920s. Through many conversations with the old timers in my family, I have been able to grasp a picture of our ecosystem that is unique to most other fisherman. The Tampa Bay fishery took a gradual turn for the worst in the 1970s and has been in a downward spiral ever since. As I commonly explain on Tampa Fishing Charters , three things have adversely affected our fishery; 1.The Army Corps of Engineers Effects on Tampa Fishing Charters Some where along the way politicians and engineers thought it would be a great idea to cut a bunch of straight lines through winding rivers, creeks and lakes of Florida. The largest example of this is Lake Okeechobee. The largest lake in Florida’s waters were created to naturally overflow its southern banks and drain through the Everglades into Florida Bay creating an amazing River of Grass.  However, to give sugarcane farmers land to harvest , the southern end…

Captain Anthony and his team win high praise from past clients for their friendly attitudes and their familiarity with the best fishing spots.

Tarpon Fishing in Tampa Bay is outstanding during the annual tarpon Migration.  If you’re planning a Tarpon Charter in Boca Grande FL, we seriously want you to consider Tampa / St. Pete beach. Our region is just as productive for Giant Tarpon Fishing as Boca Grande Pass but minus the ridiculous crowds and Tampa Bay has a lot more to offer if your planning a trip!

7 At St. Petersburg, “Sheepshead are still all over the place. All the canal docks, rock piles, bridges, and jetties are holding them. Fiddler crabs and shrimp fished with light tackle is the key for these fish,” reports Larry Mastry of Mastry’s Tackle (727-896-8889). The trout bite has picked up off Pinellas Point. Offshore, there’s a good hogfish bite north of the shipping channel in 50 feet of water, Mastry says.

Thanks for stopping by to read this months Tampa Fishing Charter Report. We have had some fun Tampa Fishing Charter in the month of November and now going into December. I even had a little time to get out there on a personal fun trip…

In Tampa Bay Tarpon fishing has been good for smaller tarpon in the 5-20lb range. Live bait has been what we have mainly been fishing with, but these are awesome fish for the 8 weight fly rod and a small popper fly. We have been also been catching mangrove snapper in the bay, and these fish are excellent table fair. While they are on smaller side (10”-16”) they are abundant and they do put up a decent fight for there size. The snapper bag limit is 5 fish per person. Black Drum have also made a good showing in the TampaBay and there have been a few schools with 100-500 fish in the school. The black drum are Huge and will really test your tackle.

Clearwater Beach is getting ready for Summer vacation! Summer is here and everyone is heading for the beaches including the fish… Snook are out around the gulf beaches gathering up for Spawning season and are quite the fighters once hooked up. Snook season is closed currently, but make great catch and reason action. Redfish have been a around and in good numbers. The high tide has been best to catch these fish, and we have often been fishing for trout and snook while we wait for the tide to get to the right level.

We went on a four hour charter with captain Anthony. We hit up some docks and a reef in the bay. Caught so many sheepshead! Captain Anthony was awesome to fish with. He was very kind and easy to talk …to. Due to the cold snap we had to reschedule our trip but they were awesome about finding a day that was best for us and worked for them. Highly recommend using these guys for a charter. See More

NOTE: Many marine species are managed on a coast-wide basis with seasons and limits required by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission. Those regulations must then be approved by our state’s Marine Fisheries Council. The Council usually addresses these issues at their March meeting with the management measures becoming effective in mid- to late April or early May. The Marine Digest is normally published in May; the 2017 edition will be available in July. Regulations remain in effect until changed.

6 At Anna Maria, trout are hanging on the edges of the flats adjacent to deeper water of the Intracoastal Waterway in Sarasota Bay. Schools of Spanish mackerel are mixed in with schools of ladyfish in areas holding fry bait. Redfish and black drum are holding in the potholes. “The redfish are lower slot size, but the black drum are good size, some are pushing 32 inches,” Crawford says.

  1. Morris says:

Granted, there will be times when you won’t need a leader line while inshore fishing (like if the water massively dirty and dark with no structure around), but 90% of the time you will be better off using a leader while inshore fishing.
If you are in the Tampa Bay area we can find a convenient place to meet for your charter. If you have a Tampa fishing charter or St. Petersburg fishing charter, we typically meet you by the magnificent Sunshine Skyway bridge at the top fishing marina in the bay area; O’Neill’s Marina where the custom built 2016 T Craft 24′ is stored on it’s private boat lift. Due to the versatility of the location, we can also arrange a pick up in downtown St Petersburg at Demens Landing Park, in Tampa at the Hula Bay Club, on the south shore of the bay in Apollo Beach, or across the bridge in Bradenton. If you have a Clearwater Fishing Charter then we are quick and easy access off of US 19 or 275.
7: At St. Petersburg, good numbers of bluefish have been feeding on trout in lower Tampa Bay. There’s a few redfish around the oyster bars near channels that dump water off the flats. Snook are moving into the backcountry, residential canals, and up the rivers and creeks. The trout bite is very good coming off the full moon and will only get better with the cold front. The sheepshead bite is also picking up as they continue to show themselves in greater numbers. Rock piles along the coast, in Tampa Bay, and around the Gandy and Howard Frankland Bridges are good areas to target, reports Capt. Ray Markham of Backwater Promotions (941-723-2655).
Tampa Bay during the spring time will still see those tailing Red’s in the flats, but with the addition of big Red’s throw in the mix. Catching Snook becomes more common, and Seatrout will still be lurking actively in the grass flats. Also, Cobia will begin to appear during the migration.
“Have a variety of tackle rigged to capitalize on any situation (that) may arise, whether you are an inshore or offshore angler. For example, I’ll have several spinning rods rigged with plain circle hooks, bucktails and a top-water chugger, plus an assortment of dead (squid, ballyhoo) and live bait (pinfish, pilchards, etc.). If we’re running out and spot a cobia, or if we are bottom or drift fishing and a cobia, dolphin or even a sailfish swims by, we have several rods we can quickly get to, and baits; we’ve an excellent shot at catching that fish. The worst scenario is seeing fish pop up and you have nothing rigged to take advantage of it.”
