The piers are closed through May 5 for renovation. When they reopen, there is no charge to fish from them, although there is a $5 per car entry fee into the park. They both have bait shops, concession stands and restrooms.
Clearwater Beach Fishing Inshore this month has produced lots of Spotted Sea Trout, a few Redfish, and a some snook. Live Shrimp has been the bait of choice, but Sardines are starting to show back up. Mackerel and King Fish should be right behind them. The original bridge was destroyed when the freighter Summit Venture collided with a column of the bridge during a storm on May 9, 1980. In 1992, the center spans of the old bridge were demolished and the remaining sections on the Pinellas and Manatee county sides were converted into piers. September Fishing has been good! Hurricane Irma hit Florida hard, but didn’t hit Clearwater beach, St. Pete beach, or Tampa Bay. While many people lost power here I was on vacation in Venice,Louisiana catching Bull Redfish! I came home the second week of the month and the Snook, Redfish, trout, mackerel and many others were ready to bite, and the weather has been perfect with no wind or rain!
