“You have to be patient,” Chiem said. “You can catch fish out here, grouper, snapper, mackerel. People don’t think you can catch grouper out here but you can. You just have to know what you’re doing and be patient.”
I took a quick glance at my website to make sure everything was working and up to date and noticed I hadn’t posted in quite a while, and then looked at how many trips I have run this calendar year … Continue reading →

Supplementing a chumline with freshly cut threadfin herring chunks can jumpstart a good bite.

Sarasota Middle Ground flats, Big Sarasota Pass, Longboat Pass, and the flats near Key Royale are some great spots to find pompano. Small short skirted jigs work well for pompano, but a jig made in Pinellas called Doc’s Goofy Jigs is becoming the standard for pompano.

Vincent, Great question. I did do one charter where I had two customers that wanted to split a charter. I went ahead and made the arrangements for them to fish together with me. Unfortunately for them personality’s clashed between them. It made for a uncomfortable trip for both of them and me. Since that incident I do not any longer mix charters. If you would like to call me maybe I could work something out to accommodate you doing a charter with me or possibly another captain in my net work. Thank you, Capt. Steve 813-727-8843 P.S. I apologize for the delay in response. I just noticed I had the notification for a question this morning.
Captain Andy and Captain Ollie were fantastic! We were so excited to experience deep sea fishing and they helped make the experience worth while. We caught several difference fish including a handful sharks! They were knowledgeable of the water and where the best spots to catch fish were. Our family day trip for 5 was an amazing adventure and a fantastic experience. I would highly recommend anyone who lives in the area or is visiting Florida make time for these guys! They do an incredible job and you are guaranteed to catch some fish. At the end of the trip Captain Ollie cleaned our fish for us and we were able to eat our catch(es) of the day at Ricky’s. The experience was one to remember! Thank you to both guys for a successful day on the water!M MJ Boyce

With no cold fronts rolling into the bay area soon, it also means water temperatures are on the rise to the mid 70s. That has the bite fired up inshore and nearshore. Snook fishing is on fire with these warmer temperatures at night. We’ve been findin…
