Selecting and spooling up with the right line for the type of fishing that you plan to do is an essential component in successful saltwater fishing. Because of the damage dealt out by constant exposure to saltwater and intense sunlight, it is important to always buy a good quality fishing line and change it often. Stick with the brands sold by major manufacturers and avoid ‘bargains’ on lesser-known products that may fail when put to the test. Losing the fish of a lifetime simply because you momentarily embraced a false sense of economy is a tough one to swallow.
Tampa fishing and its inshore potential have long been renowned way beyond The Sunshine State. These waters are brimming with the likes of Snook, Redfish, and Tarpon during most of the year, with a wide range of smaller Shark species to keep you busy on even the slowest of days. In fact, there’s such a variety of species cruising the Tampa flats year-round, you’d be seriously hard-pressed to find a local fishing guide that recalls the last time he and his guests came back from the trip empty-handed. But don’t take our word for it!

If it swims, it’s in these waters. The Bay provides such a wide variety of aquatic life, it’s not uncommon to bag more than a dozen species on any given outing. The mighty Snook prowls the mangrove shorelines. Schools of tailing Redfish rest on the glassy grass flats. And the notorious Florida Tarpon roam the Bay’s endless passes. Whatever you’re after, it’s never more than a cast away.
Vincent, Great question. I did do one charter where I had two customers that wanted to split a charter. I went ahead and made the arrangements for them to fish together with me. Unfortunately for them personality’s clashed… More

Similarly, the original Gandy Bridge now serves as a biking/pedestrian route called the “Friendship Trail,” with lower catwalks extending from either end. The structures adjacent to the Gandy and Skyway bridges—along with dedicated fishing lanes on smaller spans like the Tierra Verde Bridge (south Pinellas)—give landbound anglers access to the bounty below.
Hard Card: A hard, credit card-style license can be purchased in addition to purchasing your annual or five-year license. The ‘hard card’ costs $5. If you purchase the ‘hard card,’ your temporary license should read “hard card shipped separately.” NOTE: Each $5 ‘hard card’ can hold up to seven different licenses or permits. If you have more than seven licenses or permits and want them all on a card, you will need to purchase additional cards at $5 each.
Use the Right Fishing Knot – The best way to make sure you don’t lose that next world record fish is to make sure you’re using the right knot. You need to learn a fishing knot that can retain 100% of its strength when tied, and only the bimini twist (aka 20 times around know) can do just that. The right knot can make the difference between a big catch, or a big disappointment. For this reason, we strongly recommend keeping the Pro-Knot Saltwater Fishing Knot Manual with you at all times.
The net affect of this weather was that all Tampa Fishing Guides got a whole lot more vacation days than planned over the course of the last month. On the coldest days, sheepshead were the only logical target. Although good to eat, the cold air and limited species selection kept most anglers off the water anyway. For those who ventured out, fishing shrimp or small crabs up under docks or against bridge pilings was the ticket.
Tarpon are one of Tampa’s premier Sport Fishing charters species in Tampa Fl. When you hook into a Tarpon, aka The Silver King, on your Sport Fishing bucket list, you will know you have hooked the fish of a lifetime!

Fishing is the most popular recreational pastime in America; it boasts more active enthusiasts than golf, tennis and sailing combined. Saltwater fishing alone draws in nearly 25 million participants nationwide in a single year. Whether it be trolling offshore for big tuna, drifting across a placid bay for flounder or fishing the skinny water of the intertidal flats for redfish and trout, the plurality of venues and fish species available to saltwater anglers can seem virtually endless.
Get your dose of Redfish when the fishing is still hot! The Snook bite is consistent on the outgoing tide with 20 to 24 inch class. Sheepshead and Mangrove Snapper are around the bridges and on the rock pile.
There are shallow flats, and miles of peaceful back-country which are the breeding grounds of most game fish. You can target schools of Redfish roaming the flats, Trout feeding in the miles of healthy sea grass, Tarpon Rolling along the bridges and passes throughout the bay, or Snook lying in the miles of undeveloped Mangroves lining Tampa Bay.
During the winter in Tampa Bay an angler will see increased activity for big (Gator) Seatrout, Redfish tailing the flats, and Snook will still be hitting baits early on in the season. Don’t let the cool temps fool you, this can be one of the best times to fish here.

We take fishing regulations seriously because we’re committed to conservation. It’s important to know and respect the local fishing regulations to help protect and sustain the fisheries. At best, it’s good sportsmanship. At worst, being unfamiliar is prescription for fines and penalties. We must all do our small part in protecting the fisheries for future generations to come. Please learn more about Florida fishing regulations and how to acquire your fishing license.
St.Pete Beach fishing has been providing plenty of action for anglers visiting this area. Tarpon, Snook, Redfish, trout, and sharks have all been around and willing to bite over the last few weeks. Tarpon fishing is starting to get good, the fish were a little late this year, but they are finally here and the bite is getting better daily. Tarpon fishing trips are limited to only one trip per day as it is a full day charter. Snook, Redfish, and Trout are also providing a steady bite on the inshore flats around ft.desoto park. Live sardine have been abundant and the fish are willing to strike. If you have kids the small sharks have been around they they loving them! Give me a call if you want to get out

5: Around the Sunshine Skyway and lower Tampa Bay, the gag grouper bite has been real good around the south Skyway area. There’s also lots of nice sheepshead and flounder, along with some mangrove snapper. The snook are still biting, but they’re on the move. The area flats are producing some nice trout and the size is getting better. There’s also a good bite on black drum from 18 to 24 inches, reports Eric Gilbert Skyway Bait and Tackle (941-357-1122).
Once you get the party rocking, freeline live shrimp, pilchards or threads on 2/0 circle hooks toward the pilings. Let out line in 5-foot increments to “count” back and locate the hot zone. In strong current or choppy conditions, add a splitshot or replace the circle hook with a jighead to keep your bait from kiting too high in the water column.
For a natural chum job, scrape the pilings to crush and release barnacles or mussels. The scent stimulates sheepshead, drum, redfish and pompano—all likely recipients of cut shrimp dropped into the scent zone on 1⁄4-ounce jigheads. (Light hooks and splitshots also work, but jigheads effect a more streamlined presentation that drops quicker in current without spooking fish.)
Thanks for stopping by to read this months Tampa Fishing Charter Report. We have had some fun Tampa Fishing Charter in the month of November and now going into December. I even had a little time to get out there on a personal fun trip……
