Captain Betz – Flats and Bay Fishing Charters are the Best… My friends and I come down from Atlanta each year for the Falcons vs Bucs for football, golf, and fishing. Besides the game, fishing with Captain Betz is the of our trip. Not…More
Thinner braided lines tend to cast easier and farther than most monofilaments. The only drawback is that braided line usually requires a leader in order to achieve optimum performance. But no matter what type line you select, this best types of leaders to use are ones made from fluorocarbon, which becomes virtually invisible to fish once it has been submerged.
I have used the australian army ration pack spoon as a lure and have caught barramundi, saratoga, spanish mackeral, mangrove jack, G.T. , queenfish, cobia and school mackeral with it. Not many of each species, and this has been over the last 25 years. Always when the bite is on, it has a golden shine at first, but after a while it becomes a dull silver. Thats when it gets replaced with a new one
Further defining the proximity variables, a recent trip with Capt. Chuck Rogers of Tampa found us hovering under the Gandy and pulling a few mangrove snapper from the pilings. When the action slowed, we moved outside and did the anchor-and-chum routine. Rogers noted the wisdom of fanning a bridge section to locate the sweet spot. Once we dialed in the spot, several keeper mangos hit the ice.
With the ability to charter up to 150 passengers, Queen Fleet is the premiere fishing charter in the Tampa Bay area. Whether you’re after grouper, snapper, sea bass, or any other deep-sea fish, Queen Fleet’s captains have the experience and expertise to turn any novice fisherman into a full-blown, deep-sea angler!
I caught some of the biggest pompano I’ve ever seen with St. Petersburg skipper Capt. Paul Hawkins. Targeting one of the smaller bridges on the Sunshine Skyway’s approach section, Hawkins worked the upcurrent side during an incoming tide and switched to the downcurrent side when we returned later in the day to fish the outgoing water.
If you ever battled a Tarpon before, you know this is one durable trophy fish. Most fights last from 20 to 40 minutes, although you should try and end the struggle as soon as possible. Other than ensuring the fish’s survival, this also helps in avoiding the sharks. The toothy critters are hardly scarce around here.
4: At Fort DeSoto Park, plenty of pompano along with flounder and sheepshead are being caught around the area. Anglers are catching some real nice keeper gag grouper from the bridge. Spot tail pinfish has been the hot bait on an outgoing tide. The Spanish mackerel bite is good at both the Bay and Gulf Piers and there’s whiting on the beach and in the passes. “Inside the park, there’s been some nice trout caught from the ‘Mud Hole’ area and the snook bite is pretty decent,” reports Capt. Claude Hinson of the Bait Bucket (727-864-2108).
Great list – my only addition would be a yellow bucktail to go along with the white. Don’t know why, but I’ve found that sometimes when the white seems ineffective, the yellow just flat-out kills ’em – spotted weakfish (trout), snook, reds, etc. Used to tie my own, but they aren’t any better than store-bought and probably no cheaper!

7: At St. Petersburg, good numbers of bluefish have been feeding on trout in lower Tampa Bay. There’s a few redfish around the oyster bars near channels that dump water off the flats. Snook are moving into the backcountry, residential canals, and up the rivers and creeks. The trout bite is very good coming off the full moon and will only get better with the cold front. The sheepshead bite is also picking up as they continue to show themselves in greater numbers. Rock piles along the coast, in Tampa Bay, and around the Gandy and Howard Frankland Bridges are good areas to target, reports Capt. Ray Markham of Backwater Promotions (941-723-2655).

Redfish schools have started to invade the flats around Pinellas Point. On low tide in the morning, I look for a school on an outer sandbar. These fish are staged on the edge waiting for the tide to come in. Once the water level rises, the fish will …
5/18/2017: I’ve been to a number of fish camps and charter services. Home Run is the BEST! The captains will put you on fish and Evie will treat you like family. Cannot offer a higher Recommendation. Signage to direct guest off should improve.
All together, Tampa Bay Charter’s fishing captains have nearly 90 years of not just local fishing experience but actual CHARTER FISHING experience in Tampa Bay! And, all of the listed captains have been fishing Tampa Bay waters well before deciding to guide others to these exciting sport fish. These years of experience make a huge difference in you having a successful and exciting Tampa Bay fishing charter. Tampa Bay Charter captains are all independent owner/operators and don’t work on or run someone else’s boat. They’re in the business of keeping their clients on the fish and having happy repeat clients for years to come. While fishing with your captain, you’ll benefit from him networking with other captains on the water to assure you’ll be where the bite is on and rods are bent…
Today my girlfriend and I went on a fishing trip with Captain Anthony and Joey, it was a gift for her birthday. Both were great guys and gave us a true quality experience. It was a new experience for …both of us. My girlfriend reeled in 2 sharks and a pufferfish. I caught 2 mackerel and a cobia. The cobia was actually Captain Anthony’s line but he gave it to me when it hooked so I could bring him in. Then they even filleted and bagged the fish for us to take home. We took them to a restaurant to eat fresh. Perfect day thanks to Pocket Change Inshore Fishing Charters See More
Thanks for stopping by to read this months Tampa Fishing Charter Report. We have had some fun Tampa Fishing Charter in the month of November and now going into December. I even had a little time to get out there on a personal fun trip…

Although readily available year round, spring thru fall gives anglers the best chance to limit out on Snook. Their metabolism tends to slow down significantly during the cooler months. While they’ll still blast your plug every now and again, winter is typically better spent pursuing other species (see above!)
Tarpon Fishing in Tampa Bay is outstanding during the annual tarpon Migration. If you’re planning a Tarpon Charter in Boca Grande FL, we seriously want you to consider Tampa / St. Pete beach. Our region is just as productive for Giant Tarpon Fishing as Boca Grande Pass but minus the ridiculous crowds and Tampa Bay has a lot more to offer if your planning a trip!
InShore Tampa Bay Fishing Charters will honor the cancellation of a reserved Charter up to 36 (thirty six) hours before scheduled charter is to begin, and will refund the fee s paid, minus booking fee(s) quoted.
If you are in the Tampa Bay area we can find a convenient place to meet for your charter. If you have a Tampa fishing charter or St. Petersburg fishing charter, we typically meet you by the magnificent Sunshine Skyway bridge at the top fishing marina in the bay area; O’Neill’s Marina where the custom built 2016 T Craft 24′ is stored on it’s private boat lift. Due to the versatility of the location, we can also arrange a pick up in downtown St Petersburg at Demens Landing Park, in Tampa at the Hula Bay Club, on the south shore of the bay in Apollo Beach, or across the bridge in Bradenton. If you have a Clearwater Fishing Charter then we are quick and easy access off of US 19 or 275.
The big boy of the bunch, the Sunshine Skyway Bridge spans the mouth of Tampa Bay and links Pinellas to Manatee County. The original Skyway was demolished years ago after a phosphate barge hit one of the main span pilings during a squall. The north and southbound approach lanes were capped and converted into state park fishing piers.
Fishing from a pier is a popular pastime for may landlubbers around Tampa Bay. There are quite a number of piers around the bay. Some jut only a few feet into the water, while others extend a quarter of a mile or more away from shore (the Skyway Fishing Pier State Park south pier extends almost two miles into Tampa Bay). Piers offer anglers a chance to fish waters that cannot be reached from shore or wading. Many popular sport fish hang around fishing piers because piers provide structure and food. At night, these fish can be seen cruising around the edges of the pier’s shadows. Anglers at many piers catch most of the popular sport fish, as well as some other species like pinfish, shark, catfish, ladyfish, and spadefish. This makes fishing piers a great place to get started in fishing.
