Bridges carry folks from Point A to Point B, but how about Point Sea? You have to get out of your vehicle for that one, but sling a bait under one of these people pathways and you’ll find angling action aplenty. Here’s your quick primer on fishing Tampa Bay bridges.

Run shallow-diving plugs like a Bomber Long A, Yo-Zuri or Rapala X-Rap right next to the pilings, where snook and speckled trout chase baitfish. Jigs and baitfish imitators like a D.O.A. TerrorEyz work well in the slack water behind bridge fenders. For mackerel, cast a Clarkspoon rigged with a 1- or 2-ounce cigar weight above the leader. A good rig for landlubbers, the weight hugs the bottom and the spoon flutters up like a fleeing baitfish.

Tampa Bay, Florida offers a wide variety of fishing that keeps anglers coming back. Choices of saltwater, freshwater and fishing present numerous choices of fishing with over 200 species of fish. Find out where the best fishing spots are for redfish, snook, spotted sea trout and tarpon.

Capt Oliver knows how to fish the Tampa Bay! He was on time, his boat was clean, organized and working great. He put us right on the fish. I look forward to going out again for another day of fishing! T. Burton

Capt. John, Just wanted to say that we had a great time. We enjoyed your putting us on some fish and making sure that all of us had a chance to catch some Snook. Enjoyed the conversation and laughs too. You can tell anyone needing a reference, that we would highly recommend you! Bob, David and James

Description: dark stripe (variably present) extends from nose to in front of dorsal fin and “lights up” when fish is in feeding mode; no scutes; soft dorsal base less than twice the length of the anal fin base.

“I have been out on a charter with Captain Jason several times this year. Have to say his Knowledge of the water ways is second to none. We Always come home with a boat full of fish & memories that will last a lifetime. I highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for a fishing charter.”

This area is a wonderful place to escape the busy, urban areas and visit old Florida. A shallow draft skiff is needed to reach much of the area’s best fishing. Fly fishing is truly the way to pursue the area’s redfish, trout, and the occasional monster snook. Tarpon also migrate through the waters along the Nature Coast during the spring and summer months.

Over the years Steve has stalked the many varieties of fish, expanding his knowledge of Tampa Bay. With more than 25 years of saltwater fishing experience tucked into his tackle box he began his career as a full time Tampa Bay Fishing guide.  Capt. Steve brings over 200 days a year of time spent on Tampa Bay to each and every one of his Tampa Bay Fishing Charters.

On a particularly good year, the season can last up to 7-8 months. As any angler half worth his bait knows, that’s hardly standard for any Tarpon fishery. Does someone you care about suffer from a seemingly unbreakable ‘Tarpon curse’? Bring him to Tampa Bay. He should be completely cured within a day or two.

Thank you Roland and Sharon for coming. It was great seeing you both again and I hope you will be back the next time you are in Florida for a Tampa Fishing Charter. Take care and have safe travels! Capt Steve Betz

An example of this is using a scaled sardine for Snook, I trim the tail, cutting enough so the scaled sardine can’t swim away so fast. I also use the pectoral to hook the scaled sardine (see photo), which not only slows it down, but causes the sardine to fight for its life. Snook can’t resist a scaled sardine hooked this way, even in the summer heat. Go out and try some of these things and let us know how you do.

So, prepare yourself for the Tampa Fishing expedition of a lifetime! Using cutting-edge technology, a top-of-the-line fishing boat along with decades of experience and knowledge you’ll get the opportunity to experience fishing adventures and memories lasting a lifetime.

Captain Jason Dozier has spared no expense in order to offer you simply the best in Tampa fishing adventures. Running a custom built 2018 Bonefish 26′ Malvado powered by a 300hp Evinrude outboard, FishnFl will get you on the fish while keeping you dry and comfortable – no matter what conditions Tampa Bay is throwing at us.

Throughout peak migration (May-July), most Tarpon range between 80 and 140 pounds. Still, you’ll probably hear of folks joining the coveted ‘200 club’ every now and again. If you’re specifically booking a Tarpon charter, expect an average of 2-7 hookups per trip. Days with more than 10 hookups are certainly not unheard of, though. In the end, it all depends on your own expertise and a lil’ bit of luck.

You will be aboard a fully restored 24 foot Proline that built for shallow draft, and also to handle the choppy open Tampa Bay fishing charters waters. You can read more about the boat on the Boat page.

Later in the coming month, tides heights will start to improve.  This, coupled with warming waters, will improve local redfishing.  With fish still wanting to get warmer, look for them around oyster bars on the higher tides as well as up on the flats in areas with potholes during the warmer parts of the day.  Until cold leaves for good, generally around the middle of March, redfish will respond best to crustaceans such as shrimp.  When the warm settles in, they’ll eat just about anything.
But why is that exactly? What is it about the greater Tampa Bay area that makes it one of the nation’s most prolific fish traps? Well, as it turns out, being the largest open-water estuary in all of the Sunshine State definitely comes with its perks.

I will provide hands on expert instruction for the novice angler and challenge the experienced angler to the best of their ability. Come see what Tampa Bay has to offer.
St.Pete Beach we had a few good trips targeting Snapper and Sharks near the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. Snapper fishing during the summer months provides consistent action and plenty of table fair to take home for a fresh fish dinner! Sharks have been thick and aggressive. Most of the sharks we are targeting are in the 2′-5′ range.
