At Homosassa, offshore, anglers are catching big kingfish, gag grouper and catch and release amberjack. Inshore, the trout bite has been good, but the redfish have been fair. The inshore rock piles are good for keeper gag grouper, Spanish mackerel, and grunts. “This may all change if the upcoming cold front drops the Gulf water temperatures three to six degrees. Most inshore fish will move back to deeper water in passes, deep-water creeks, and coastal rivers that will hold the warmer water,” said Toney.
Clearwater Beach Fishing Inshore this month has produced lots of Spotted Sea Trout, a few Redfish, and a some snook. Live Shrimp has been the bait of choice, but Sardines are starting to show back up. Mackerel and King Fish should be right behind them. Spring Fishing is here and the fishing is going to be outstanding, and the weather will be phenomenal! If you are looking to book a trip please give me a call, text, or email asap as booking are already becoming limited 727-831-0111. – Capt.Jared
Selecting and spooling up with the right line for the type of fishing that you plan to do is an essential component in successful saltwater fishing. Because of the damage dealt out by constant exposure to saltwater and intense sunlight, it is important to always buy a good quality fishing line and change it often. Stick with the brands sold by major manufacturers and avoid ‘bargains’ on lesser-known products that may fail when put to the test. Losing the fish of a lifetime simply because you momentarily embraced a false sense of economy is a tough one to swallow.
Inshore Slams have been the norm over the last few weeks. An inshore slam is when you catch a snook, trout and redfish in the same day. Fishing the flats, docks and oyster beds in St Pete Beach my charters have been catching all tree species. Live and cut bait has been working, but we […]
Fall in Tampa Bay will see the beginnings of Gator Trout, and will also offer another shot at big Redfish. Tailing Red’s will be found throughout the skinnies. Cobia will begin to increase action again on their return migration.

If you are in the Tampa Bay area we can find a convenient place to meet for charter. If you have a Tampa fishing charter or St. Petersburg fishing charter, we typically meet you by the magnificent Sunshine Skyway bridge at the top fishing marina in the bay area; O’Neill’s Marina where the custom built 2016 T Craft 24′ is stored on it’s private boat lift. Due to the versatility of the location, we can also arrange a pick up in downtown St Petersburg at Demens Landing Park, in Tampa at the Hula Bay Club, on the south shore of the bay in Apollo Beach, or across the bridge in Bradenton. If you have a Clearwater Fishing Charter then we are quick and easy access off of US 19 or 275.
The strength of the knot that connects your main line to the hook or lure is your most important link in successfully fighting a big saltwater bruiser …so make it strong! There are numerous effective knots that can work well in a variety of applications, but one personal favorite is the double palomar; it is both easy to tie and extremely dependable.
Capt. Chet is by far the best guide in Tampa Bay. I utilized his services to organize several tournaments, including hiring 12 to 15 other guides, and even though we left the dock last and came back first, we consistently outfished the other boats. He is THE capt that other capt’s reach out to when they can’t find the bait or the fish. And he delivers in challenging conditions – the last time we fished together, a late front moved through in May and the wind was howling. Capt. Chet knew of several holes in the mangroves that produced many reds and snook. My next visit to Tampa will for sure include a day on the water with Capt. Chet.
Protect Your Investment – Good fishing tackle isn’t cheap, especially if you have a quality saltwater reel. So don’t get yourself in the situation of having to replace it. It’s a good idea to soak your reel in a bucket of freshwater for 2 to 4 hours after saltwater fishing to ensure you get all the saltwater off of your line and reel.
The plume of tidal flow, accelerated by funneling through the bridge, can move the fish a significant distance from the structure. Similarly, tides move bait schools around and that often influences where predators position themselves.
Inshore fishing trips are one of the best things to do in Panama City Beach, FL. Not only do you get to spend a beautiful day out on the water, but you get the chance to fill up your cooler with some great fish to take home.
