The waters are still a bit cooler than the kind a bunch of fish like to aggressively chew in. Fishing conditions, however, have slowly but surely begun to improve. On a recon mission Tuesday, I visited both Sunshine Skyway bridge fishing piers and th…
Night fishing is always a bonus, as bridge lights attract baitfish, which draw in predators. From June through October, tarpon patrol the shadowlines of most Tampa Bay bridges and anglers drifting live baitfish or accurately casting MirrOlures, D.O.A. Baitbusters and swimbaits will put a few nocturnal ‘poons in the air.
Other anglers say that inshore fishing is anything within 3 miles of shore, while others say it’s based on the kind of fish you are catching (but I’ve seen people catch pelagics in a few feet of water so this can’t always hold true).
When George Poveromo brings his Salt Water Sportsman National Seminar Series to Riverview this weekend, he will be sharing some tricks of the trade. Trout Picking Up. Redfish returning. – Quite quickly, temperatures went from unseasonably cold to unseasonably warm. In just a few short weeks, inshore water temps have moved almost 15 degrees and are currently closing in on the 70 degree mark. Logic would say that fishing must be impro more…
Fishing with Danny is like a trip to the fish market but a WHOLE lot more fun. Last Saturday (10/05), I caught 18 fish (10 different species). Had a fabulous day. We fished from Apollo Beach all along the Southshore of Tampa Bay

The strength of the knot that connects your main line to the hook or lure is your most important link in successfully fighting a big saltwater bruiser …so make it strong! 4 At Fort DeSoto Park, the sheepshead bite is still pretty good around the bridges and any area with structure. Lots of “rat” redfish are still being caught around the park. There are also a lot of small trout up to 14 inches being caught. “There’s a good amount of snook around, but the cold weather has made them lethargic. They’ve got lockjaw,” reports Capt. Claude Hinson, of the Bait Bucket (727-864-2108).
Saltwater fishing boats are typically larger and designed for coastal and offshore fishing, such as sport and open fishermen boats, center consoles, and power catamarans decked and rigged for fishing.
Clearwater Beach has had a good Redfish bite, along with a good number of trout and some nice sharks. Redfish have been biting best on the early morning high tides for us and for anglers looking to target these fish we haven’t been have any issues finding them! Trout fishing has also been really good fishing over deep grass flats near the passes. And the sharks have been biting good on fresh dead bait while we have been catching other fish.
Near the end of the pier, Kevin Chiem is using a sabiki rig to catch greenbacks for bait. Chiem, 30, is a Skyway pier regular. He travels from Tampa at least once a week to see what’s biting in some of the most active water a Tampa Bay fishing pier has to offer.
St.Pete Beach has also been providing similar action to Clearwater beach, and the Redfish have been providing consistent action for charter trips we have done lately. St. Pete is a great area to fish out of because of the action at the mouth of the bay which means every fish that goes in and out of the bay have to pass St.Pete beach going between Egmount Key and Ft.Desoto Park, if you would like to fish any of these areas specifically just let me know.
Unlike the Skyway, which literally happened by accident, The Long Pier at Redington Shores was built in 1962 expressly to allow fishermen to catch more of the Gulf’s bounty than they could from shore. The 1,200-foot-long pier boasts a long history of significant catches, including tarpon, snook, redfish, kingfish, flounder, drum, trout, pompano, whiting and an occasional shark.
Some of the species you may catch on a Tampa fishing charters are, but not limited to, Snook, Redfish, Spotted Sea Trout, Tarpon, Black Drum, Spanish Mackerel, Flounder, Mangrove Snapper, Sheepshead, Cobia and Sharks.
