It’s January and, just like every January for the past 28 years, Old Salt is putting on the Johnny Kellar Inshore Fishing Tournament. We started this tournament due to the very special relationship several Old Salt leaders had with the young Johnny Kellar. Johnny was afflicted with Hemophilia, loved fishing and was in need of an assist. He found one with Old Salt. Read more on the beginnings of the tournament and our special relationship with a fine young man.
Hard Card: A hard, credit card-style license can be purchased in addition to purchasing your annual or five-year license. The ‘hard card’ costs $5. If you purchase the ‘hard card,’ your temporary license should read “hard card shipped separately.” NOTE: Each $5 ‘hard card’ can hold up to seven different licenses or permits. If you have more than seven licenses or permits and want them all on a card, you will need to purchase additional cards at $5 each.
If you want to catch big fish, then you’ve come to the right place. Welcome to Tampa Bay, Florida, home of some of the best inshore and offshore fishing in the world! I’m a native of the Tampa Bay area and have been fishing the waters of Tampa Bay and the Gulf since I could walk. This gives me the unique advantage of knowing when and where the fish are and how to make them bite on my tampa fishing charters. I am a FULL-TIME fishing guide and am on the water almost 300 days a year. Whether your goal is a monster snook, giant tarpon, or a shark 3 times your size, we can do it! Some of my favorite species to fish for include Tarpon, Cobia, Snook, Redfish, and trout.
eBay determines trending price through a machine learned model of the product’s sale prices within the last 90 days. “New” refers to a brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item, and “Used” refers to an item that has been used previously.
Similarly, the original Gandy Bridge now serves as a biking/pedestrian route called the “Friendship Trail,” with lower catwalks extending from either end. The structures adjacent to the Gandy and Skyway bridges—along with dedicated fishing lanes on smaller spans like the Tierra Verde Bridge (south Pinellas)—give landbound anglers access to the bounty below.

Experience the journey of a lifetime as the Reinas de Costa tackled the most competitive billfishing competition on the planet. As the only all-girls team at the Los Sueños Signature Triple Crown competition, these six badass anglers took to the waters of Costa Rica with the goal of proving that although female anglers are a rare breed, their love for the water and the sport is more than just a hobby.
As a case study, consider the four main bridges which span the Greater Tampa Bay region (see accompanying story). Add to this the many smaller bridges linking residential areas, and the area presents an assortment of emergent structures not unlike the many oil and natural gas drilling rigs dotting the northern Gulf.
“In addition to being a huge conservation tool that limits the chances of hooking a fish deeply, inline circle hooks actually catch more fish. When set properly, it’s difficult for a fish to shake it — and that provides great peace of mind when that tarpon, big snook or sailfish takes to the air.”
Clearwater Beach is getting ready for Summer vacation! Summer is here and everyone is heading for the beaches including the fish… Snook are out around the gulf beaches gathering up for Spawning season and are quite the fighters once hooked up. Snook season is closed currently, but make great catch and reason action. Redfish have been a around and in good numbers. The high tide has been best to catch these fish, and we have often been fishing for trout and snook while we wait for the tide to get to the right level.
Debris from the old bridge was put in the water to form a reef. Because it was a bridge, both piers sit high above the water. It makes for spectacular views not only of the deep blue water, but of the new Skyway bridge just to the east.
I am looking to know more about inshore fishing. I was unaware that the main difference between inshore and offshore fishing was the depth of the water. It would be good to consider which fish one is seeking and then plan a fishing trip accordingly.

Tampa Bay is one of the state’s largest natural harbors which houses a plethora of gamefish who call this place home. Tampa Bay is also the state’s largest natural open-water estuary. What this means for you is nonstop year round fishing action!
NOTE: Many marine species are managed on a coast-wide basis with seasons and limits required by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission. Those regulations must then be approved by our state’s Marine Fisheries Council. The Council usually addresses these issues at their March meeting with the management measures becoming effective in mid- to late April or early May. The Marine Digest is normally published in May; the 2017 edition will be available in July. Regulations remain in effect until changed.
July’s Fishing Charter Report for Clearwater Beach, St.Pete Beach, and Tampa bay has been a mixed bag of snapper, sharks, redfish, snook, trout, and a few others being caught. July is a Hot month and fishing can vary day to day depending on the heat and rain, but we are still Catching!!!
Tampa Bay has some of the best places to fish in the state – even if you never set foot on a boat. Landlubbers can cast a line from dozens of beaches or bridges (watch for other fishermen and learn the best times and baits from them) as well as multiple piers where fishing is the top activity.
If I’m unavailable for the day you require I will assist in finding a qualified captain to be of service. my sons Captains Mike and Mark and good friend Capt Eddie are three top qualified Tampa Fishing Captains working closely with me in accommodating clients.
Whether Osborne is guiding one or six to some of the world’s best light tackle fishing, you’ll never catch him fishing himself or sitting on his butt, even on an eight-hour charter. That’s because he’s too busy rigging, chumming, baiting hooks and releasing fish. Osborne prides himself as being the hardest working fishing guide in the industry. He remains on his feet tirelessly during your entire charter, to make sure you have the very best fishing experience available for your money, bar none.
The summer in the Tampa Bay fishery will see highly active Snook, with steady activity for the other flats favorites: Seatrout and Redfish. However, our favorite time of the year also appears now – The yearly Tarpon run. The Tarpon run generally starts in May and lasts until August.
Leading the team at A-Wake N’ Drag Fishing Charters is Captain Greg Doherty, a full-time fishing guide who has been serving local clients for over a decade. Sailing on the Gulf of Mexico, Mr. Doherty has caught a tremendous array of fish species, including snook, redfish, trout, flounder, black drums, cobia, snapper, grouper, kingfish, Spanish mackerel, and tarpon. Clients speak highly of Captain Greg for his formidable knowledge of the best local fishing spots, as well as his patient, easygoing attitude.
It also may be the world’s most convenient fishing pier. Rather than parking and lugging tackle and coolers, you can drive to where you want to fish and just unload your car. It’s also lit at night, so you can fish during the cooler hours of the evening or early morning. Even in the middle of the day, though, ts location at the mouth of the bay means there’s almost always a breeze and it’s easy to put up a tent for shade.
My girlfriend and I booked 4 hour charter with Captain Anthony on Wednesday. We were on fish the whole time. Hooked and landed many large snook. So many we skipped catchin fish we could have had for… lunch to stay on the jumping hard fighting fish he put us on! Anthony was very personable and friendly and knew his stuff. Being a long time fisherman I couldn’t have been more pleased with our experience and we will definitely be back to catch more with this charter See More
You’ll need to park and carry your tackle, but the pier has shelters, a snack bar and bait shop as well as fish cleaning stations. Cost is $15 for adults to access the entire pier or $12 for children.
“I’ll rig all tackle, baits and/or lures the day or evening prior to a trip, so when I set forth, my job is to hunt for the signs that will lead us to fish. Refuse to get distracted by rigging tackle or baits on the way to the grounds. When you hit the water, you should be 100 percent focused on signs that will lead you to fish.”
Identifying productive bridge spots is mostly trial and error, but a few criteria will help you judge a good one. Current always benefits fishing, as it pulls food sources past ambush points—usually on the downcurrent side of pilings.
See the latest highlights from the C1 team and their fierce competition in the Quest for the Crest where they took 2nd place in the series with $191,000 in winnings.
