Tampa is home to the Bro Bowl, one of the last remaining skateparks built during skateboarding’s “Golden Era” in the 1970s. It opened in 1979 and was constructed by Tampa Parks and Recreation. It was the first public skatepark to be constructed in Florida and the third on the East Coast.[citation needed]

The rapid growth of surrounding communities during the 20th century caused serious damage to the bay’s natural environment. Heavy harvesting of fish and other sea life, constant dredging of shipping channels, and the clearing of mangroves for shoreline development were important factors.[22] Most damaging was the discharge of waste water and other pollutants into the bay, which drastically degraded water quality.[23] By the 1970s, the water was so murky that sunlight could not reach the shallow bottom, sea grass coverage (which is vital to marine life) had decreased by more than 80%, many previously common species had become scarce, and bay beaches were regularly closed due to unsafe levels of bacteria and pollutants.[23]

Two county parks border the lake, to the east John Chestnut Park and to the west A.L. Anderson Park. These parks form a natural complement to the tranquility of the lake and provide numerous comfort areas and, if needed, shelter from inclement weather for boaters and fishermen.

“John, your site is excellent! I am coming home from Afghanistan in 2 weeks and discussed with my wife where to go when I get home. We looked from Winter Haven to Tarpon Springs. This site made the choice for us. You have all the information we need in a perfect format. You have set the bar very high.” — David D, Florida

The Corps Engineers currently maintains more than 80 miles of deep-water channels in Tampa Bay up to a depth of 47 feet. These must be continuously re-dredged and deepened due to the sandy nature of the bay bottom. While dredging has enabled seaborne commerce to become an important part of the Tampa Bay area’s economy, it has also damaged the bay’s water quality and ecology. More care has been taken in recent decades to lessen the environmental impact of dredging.[29] Dredged material has also been used to create several spoil islands on the eastern side of Hillsboro Bay. These islands have become important nesting sites for many seabirds, including threatened species such as oystercatchers, and have been designated as “sanctuary islands” that are off-limits to boaters.[30][31]

“Had a great time fishing with Capt. Kirk he is a very good guide. He is professional, patient and fun to fish with like fishing with a friend. I will say he can get hot out there but Capt. Kirk took care of us. You can’t go wrong with Capt. Kirk plus you will catch fish and definitely have fun. When I go again I will ask for Captain Kirk Osborne. THANKS YOU FOR A GREAT FISHING TRIP I WON’T FORGET.”

This beautiful home has all you need! Equipped with pool/beach toys, toys for little ones and adults this house caters to all. We stayed in Tarpon Springs from 3/28/15-4/2/15 and were lucky to have magnificent weather the entire week. Stephen, the owner told me that this was a great time to be in the area due to the great weather and the manatee sightings. He was right! Stephen got us settled in, showing us around the home and telling us all there was to do in the area. He even checked in with us during the week to see how we were doing. The area is loaded with gorgeous beaches, we rented a boat and with Stephen’s suggestion, we visited Anclote Key. It was amazing! I can’t speak highly enough of this beautiful home and the great customer service we received. There were 9 of us, including my toddler and we all slept very comfortably with plenty of room. Also, this house is very close to all amenities. A great experience had by all!

People from Tampa are generally known as “Tampans” or “Tampanians”. Local authorities consulted by Michael Kruse of the Tampa Bay Times suggest that “Tampan” was historically more common, while “Tampanian” became popular when the former term came to be seen as a potential insult.[7] A mix of Cuban, Italian, and Spanish immigrants began arriving in the late 1800s to live and work in the new communities of Ybor City and West Tampa. By about 1900, these newcomers came to be known as “tampeños” (or “tampeñas” for females), a term that is still sometimes used to refer to their descendants living in the area.[7][26][27]

You need inspiring executive leadership.”[St. Petersburg startup] SavvyCard has raised a lot of money, achieved significant evaluation and has an evangelical-type of CEO. You need that evangelical CEO who’s passionate, not going to quit, inspires the management team to think they can do the impossible. SavvyCard is just one company. We have hundreds of files on Tampa Bay companies.” Cartwright says he hasn’t invested in SavvyCard.

The Venice Fishing Pier is a short drive from Sarasota, but well worth it. This experience will give you not only a great fishing venue but one that puts you high over the Gulf of Mexico. Opened in October, 2004, at the Pier you don’t need a fishing license; the only place I know of in the area where you can fish license-free. You may even rent a rod and reel at the Pier. And you can get your bait here too. You virtually don’t have to bring anything with you. What can you catch from on high over the Gulf of Mexico at “The Pier?” Read more about the Venice Fishing Pier and find out.

“The mid July tempuratures, drought conditions and inexperienced young anglers made for quite the challenge but Captain Mike was a true professional and got us onto some nice sized fish. My 10yr old son couldn’t stop saying how much fun he had even though he didn’t have much luck until the very last minute of the trip. Mike was very personable and informative and made sure everyone left with great memories as well as new fishing knowledge and tips. We will definately be back and I highly recommend Captain Mike.”
