October is one of the best months for fishing here in the Clearwater beach, St.Pete beach, Tampa bay area. Everything is biting and the weather is Great!!! Inshore fishing Snook, Redfish, Trout and many more are biting, nearshore the Kingfish and Mackerel are running.
Fishing in the calm backwaters here on the Emerald Coast in Destin, Florida is super relaxing and you are guaranteed to have a great time. Most of our inshore fishing charters is in the Choctawhatchee Bay and Intracoastal Waterways.
Inshore fishing this week in the Clearwater beach area has been Great, and the weather has been outstanding. In the last couple of fishing trips this week we have caught trout, redfish, snook, and big bluefish. Fishing should remain good over the next few weeks with similar conditions but I expect the triple tail to show up in the coming weeks. Give me a call if you would like to get a trip set up. – Capt.Jared (727)831-0111 www.CaptJared.com

Later in the coming month, tides heights will start to improve. This, coupled with warming waters, will improve local redfishing. With fish still wanting to get warmer, look for them around oyster bars on the higher tides as well as up on the flats in areas with potholes during the warmer parts of the day. Until cold leaves for good, generally around the middle of March, redfish will respond best to crustaceans such as shrimp. When the warm settles in, they’ll eat just about anything.
Tidal movement affects just about every type of saltwater fishing venue except the blue waters offshore. In order to optimize your angling success, it is vital to use the changing of the tides to your advantage. As a rule of thumb, it is a good idea to arrive at your chosen fishing destination at least an hour before the high tide is scheduled to peak, and plan to continue fishing for at least another half hour thereafter.
Buyer beware: These days, it seems everybody and their brother is a fishing guide. Unfortunately, many of these captains are part-timers which use inferior equipment, vessels, have zero customer service skills or just recently obtained their USCG license and have little experience. Then there are the charter booking agencies who don’t care whose boat they stick you on, as long as they take your hard-earned money. These unscrupulous services sadly leave the consumer very disappointed and believing that the fishing in Florida is highly overrated.
Winter Time Fishing is as Good as it Gets! – Last weeks cooler temperatures pushed a lot of the fish closer to their winter time hide outs. With winter time low tides, this typically means the fish are grouped tighter together, and once located we tend to catch a lot in one hole. White bait more…

January fishing has had consistent with catches of Sea Trout, Sheepshead, Black drum, Pompano, and a few Redfish. We have been fishing in between cold fronts, but when its not blowing we’re fishing! We have mainly been fishing with live shrimp and some artificial lures. If you prefer lures over bait just let me know! Here are some pics from the first half of the month.
September 28, 2009 – Despite a congressional mandate to fix the “serious flaws in design” and “inadequate analysis methods” that renders MRFSS obsolete, the National Marine Fisheries Service continues using this fatally flawed program to deny the public access to coastal fisheries like red snapper, amberjack and black sea bass, crippling the recreational fishing industry. Click here to read MRFSS position paper. (Note from Ed.: This is what I told everyone about in June of ’09. NMFS is now considering a total closure of the bottom fishery in the south Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico that could possibly close fishing for up to 35 years.)

10/9/09 Everyone needs to go here and read this. http://www.sportfishingmag.com/blog.jsp?blogID=300 For those who choose not to believe that the enviro groups have an agenda to stop fishing, pay close attention. For those who don’t believe that EDF, OC, and other enviro groups are working hard in other areas to stop fishing and then will bring that effort home, pay close attention.
and Red Grouper Fisheries – This report is very long and very tedious to read, but it is one that EVERY bottom fisherman in the Gulf of Mexico should read….Then read below what the Gulf of Mexico Fisheries Commission is trying to do to us….Click here for the report
