Fishing from a pier is a popular pastime for may landlubbers around Tampa Bay. There are quite a number of piers around the bay. Some jut only a few feet into the water, while others extend a quarter of a mile or more away from shore (the Skyway Fishing Pier State Park south pier extends almost two miles into Tampa Bay). Piers offer anglers a chance to fish waters that cannot be reached from shore or wading. Many popular sport fish hang around fishing piers because piers provide structure and food. At night, these fish can be seen cruising around the edges of the pier’s shadows. Anglers at many piers catch most of the popular sport fish, as well as some other species like pinfish, shark, catfish, ladyfish, and spadefish. This makes fishing piers a great place to get started in fishing.
Captain Andy and Captain Ollie were fantastic! We were so excited to experience deep sea fishing and they helped make the experience worth while. We caught several difference fish including a handful of sharks! They were knowledgeable of the water and where the best spots to catch fish were. Our family day trip for 5 was an amazing adventure and a fantastic experience. I would highly recommend anyone who lives in the area or is visiting Florida make time for these guys! They do an incredible job and you are guaranteed to catch some fish. At the end of the trip Captain Ollie cleaned our fish for us and we were able to eat our catch(es) of the day at Ricky’s. The experience was one to remember! Thank you to both guys for a successful day on the water!M MJ Boyce
Once new saltwater anglers get their sea legs, they can begin to explore other options like drifting inshore in a small skiff, fishing on a party boat, kayak fishing or even eventually heading offshore to battle big tuna or marlin. A whole new world awaits them.
Like reefs, bridges offer abundant opportunity with lots of room for personal style. However, unlike their submerged counterparts, bridges are easy to locate and you rarely have to worry about finding dive flags on your spot.
The first half of February has been hit or miss for inshore fishing. The consistent cold fronts and warmups seem to have the fish confused. The week ahead should be pretty good. The best bite has been midmorning into the afternoon. With temperatures …

Captain Anthony and Joey were super friendly and helpful, and they w…ere very eager to make sure that we had the best fishing possible. Tidal movement affects just about every type of saltwater fishing venue except the blue waters offshore. In order to optimize your angling success, it is vital to use the changing of the tides to your advantage. As a rule of thumb, it is a good idea to arrive at your chosen fishing destination at least an hour before the high tide is scheduled to peak, and plan to continue fishing for at least another half hour thereafter.
Captain Anthony was AMAZING! It was myself and my 2 girls (ages 14 and 9). The fish were coming in one after another. They kept the girls busy reeling the fish in and kept it fun! Thanks for the great… time…we will certainly see you again later this year for another memorable trip! Thank you so much! See More
The Tampa, Clearwater, and Tampa Bay areas offer a broad array of Tampa and Clearwater fishing charters. Your Tampa fishing trip begins fishing along our beautiful, world class beaches for game fish like Snook, whose drag screaming runs and jumps will excite even veteran anglers. If redfish are your primary target, you can pursue these tough battlers out on the Tampa Bay fishing flats, or in tight against the mangroves or other shoreline structure. Speckled sea trout represent our most readily available game fish in Tampa, FL. Trout can be caught most times of the year and often, from late November to early April, in great abundance. During the spring and fall months, near shore Clearwater fishing, (2 – 9 miles out) offers the opportunity to catch a wide range of species including Spanish mackerel, mangrove snapper, kingfish, grouper, and others. All of these species can be caught in Tampa and Clearwater using artificial lures or live bait.
A recreational saltwater fishing license is required for residents and nonresidents to take or attempt to take saltwater fish, crabs, clams, marine plants or other saltwater organisms (other than non-living seashells and lionfish with certain gear).

Watch Your Leader – If you’re using a leader then it’s important to keep an eye on the knot area of where your line is tied to your leader. This area and about a foot or two above it tends to get damaged pretty quickly, especially if you’re surf fishing. You’ll want to cut off any bad or frayed areas and retie your leader. Don’t lose a big monster catch because you were too lazy to check your leader knot. And also make sure to use a quality leader, we recommend the Seaguar Blue Label Fluorocarbon Leader.
Cold Front has fish on the move! – With some of the coldest weather we have had since the infamous 2010 freeze, the fish will finally be pushed to their winter time hide outs. For snook this means they will be holding on sea walls, residential canals, mud bottom areas, etc. Trout more…
