So if you are traveling and want a simplified tackle box that is almost guaranteed to get you some strikes almost anywhere you can go saltwater fishing in the world (without having to haul along your entire garage full of tackle), here are the 7 fishing lures that you need to bring along.
Spotted sea trout feed mainly on crabs, menhaden, shrimp, mullet and anchovies. Good fishing for spotted sea trout can be found near the mouth of Tampa Bay around Fort DeSoto during the summer months. The best fishing is at dawn or dusk.
Tampa Bay Florida and the surrounding waters of the Gulf of Mexico provide anglers with a tremendous variety of fish species in one of the United States best vacation destinations. Tampa Bay Charter’s goal is to provide reliable, detailed information for the fisherman in the family so that they can make the most of their time in the area.
Clearwater beach area we have been targeting Snook, Redfish, and Trout and the action has been consistent with a few snook being caught, tons of trout, and good numbers of Redfish! We have typically been targeting snook in the early moring before the water gets to hot, then moving on to the trout and redfish depending on the tides.
Truly the best fishing experience in all of Tampa. Top of the line tackle and rigging. If Matt cannot get you on the fish they are not there. I have fished all over the world and never had more action than a day with Matt and his awesome 1st mate. I will be back ASAP.-Bruce Ferguson
Inshore Slams have been the norm over the last few weeks. An inshore slam is when you catch a snook, trout and redfish in the same day. Fishing the flats, docks and oyster beds in St Pete Beach my charters have been catching all tree species. Live and cut bait has been working, but we […]
Offshore fishing charters typically depart from St Petersburg and Clearwater. These trips offer a unique opportunity to leave the coastline behind and explore the notorious Gulf of Mexico. Game fish aplenty in the waters of the Gulf, with its countless wrecks, reefs, ledges, hard bottoms and copious weed lines.
4: At Fort DeSoto Park, plenty of pompano along with flounder and sheepshead are being caught around the area. Anglers are catching some real nice keeper gag grouper from the bridge. Spot tail pinfish has been the hot bait on an outgoing tide. The Spanish mackerel bite is good at both the Bay and Gulf Piers and there’s whiting on the beach and in the passes. “Inside the park, there’s been some nice trout caught from the ‘Mud Hole’ area and the snook bite is pretty decent,” reports Capt. Claude Hinson of the Bait Bucket (727-864-2108).
Not only is fishing during the night convenient, it also makes sense. Most species are nocturnal and prefer to feed when the sun comes down. This rings especially true during the hottest months of the year.
Preserve the Experience for Others – The only way we can sustain commercial and recreational fishing in the future is to work together. Use a circle hook when fishing to prevent injury to the fish. We like the Gamakatsu Octopus Circle Hook, but if you have a barb hook then you can simply crush it some needle nose pliers. Never keep your catch out of the water longer than you can hold your own breath. The slime that covers a fish protects it from bacteria and infection, so do your best to not remove this slime. Also, don’t forget to practice catch and release, especially during spawning seasons!

In Tampa Bay Tarpon fishing has been good for smaller tarpon in the 5-20lb range. Live bait has been what we have mainly been fishing with, but these are awesome fish for the 8 weight fly rod and a small popper fly. We have been also been catching mangrove snapper in the bay, and these fish are excellent table fair. While they are on smaller side (10”-16”) they are abundant and they do put up a decent fight for there size. The snapper bag limit is 5 fish per person. Black Drum have also made a good showing in the TampaBay and there have been a few schools with 100-500 fish in the school. The black drum are Huge and will really test your tackle.
St.Pete Beach fishing trips have been catch lots of Spanish Mackerel, Pompano, Trout, and Redfish fishing both the grass flats of Ft. Desoto, and just off the beach in front of the the Don Cesar hotel. Fall fishing is heating up and the St. Pete area is great because it the opening between the Gulf of mexico and Tampa Bay, and all the fish moving through the area pass by the area making for great angling opportunities.
Florida Inshore Angler.com was created by Allen Applegarth to provide Florida inshore saltwater fishing anglers with saltwater fishing tips, saltwater fishing reports, how tos, fishing videos, fishing and boating related product reviews, and a forum for anglers and other outdoor activities such as camping and hunting. A few years after establishing this saltwater fishing site in 2007, I decided to write another book based on Florida inshore fishing, fittingly named after this site. Depending on my available time limitations, my new title should be published in 2013-14.
The longevity and success of my business was built on repeat clientele and referrals. Please take a moment and read through a couple of my testimonials to see what they say. Fish with me once, and you’re hooked!
One of the area’s true salts, Hawkins taught me an important tactical point: Fishing a bridge doesn’t necessarily mean hugging the structure. There are times when pompano and other species will feed close to the structure, but consider that the eddies spun by flowing tides can create feeding scenarios 100 yards from the pilings.
