Near the end of the pier, Kevin Chiem is using a sabiki rig to catch greenbacks for bait. Chiem, 30, is a Skyway pier regular. He travels from Tampa at least once a week to see what’s biting in some of the most active water a Tampa Bay fishing pier has to offer.

Hi, my name is Capt. Greg Peterson, and I am a full time fly fishing and light tackle guide working in the Tampa Bay area. Fishing is and always has been my passion ever since I can remember. To be a guide is a dream come true and also a huge commitment. I work my hardest to make sure my clients are given the best chance for success. I will provide hands on expert instruction for the novice angler and challenge the experienced angler to the best of their ability. Tampa Bay and the surrounding gulf waters offer world class fishing year round that many people do not know about and the travel and accessibility are second to none. Come see what Tampa Bay has to offer.

InShoreTampaBay.com charters will originate from any Marina accessible to Tampa Bay area water’s, and from Hudson (Pasco County) in the North, to Anna Maria Island (Sarasota County) in the South. Captain Lee will Launch the boat to access the best fishing grounds depending on season. Our Home Port is O’Neill’s Marina in St. Petersburg – see map

As a friend of mine once said, I feel sorry for anyone who hasn’t discovered their passion in life. We all have one inside of us. It’s that activity that brings you immense satisfaction. At seven years of age, I was introduced to fishing and knew it would be a part of my life from there forward. Although I fished whenever the opportunity arose, it would be a long time before I would actually become a guide. I went to high school, then college. Next, I held a variety of sales positions that took me to every state in the US.  Then, in late 2005, it was time….time to walk away to spend my working hours doing something that I had always really wanted to do…fish. I pulled the plug to pursue my dream…become a fishing guide in the great state of Florida….arguably one of the best states to fish in the entire United States.

Offshore game fish, like marlin and tuna, can be very large and heavy tackle is needed. Fishing is usually done with sea rods, such as downtide rods, with lines of 30 to 50 pounds and multiplier reels. Baits are the same as for inshore fishing include squid and whole mackerel as well as artificial lures such as perks. Fishing takes place over reefs and wrecks for very large cod, ling and congers.

Tampa Bay bridges produce year-round but the popularity increases as the thermometer rises. Fish and anglers beat the heat by sticking close to a bridge’s shaded waters. When thunderstorms threaten, a bridge is your umbrella and windbreak. No need to run back to port—just tuck behind the downwind side and ride out the blow.

Fall Brings Cooler Temps and Fishing Heats Up! – Back to normal temps this time of year has the fish biting! The bite has been outstanding the past 10 days and it should stay like this for a while. Let’s talk Trout fishing; my clients are enjoying some nice trout to take home this time of year a more…

• Watch Your Clearance: During a sudden summer downpour, my friend rushed under a section of the old Sunshine Skyway Bridge (now a pier) but forgot to pull down the rods from his T-top holders. The sound of hopelessly scarred fiberglass and graphite scraping against concrete was far worse than fingernails on a chalkboard. Lesson: Check your clearance and don’t take chances with rods or antennas.

For whatever reason, Tampa Bay is often unjustly overlooked as a premier fly fishing destination. It can certainly be hard to compete with the traditional heavyweights such as Homosassa and the Florida Keys. However, the relatively-untapped potential of the Bay should make it incredibly appealing to real fly enthusiasts everywhere.

My girlfriend and I booked 4 hour charter with Captain Anthony on Wednesday. We were on fish the whole time. Hooked and landed many large snook. So many we skipped catchin fish we could have had for… lunch to stay on the jumping hard fighting fish he put us on! Anthony was very personable and friendly and knew his stuff. Being a long time fisherman I couldn’t have been more pleased with our experience and we will definitely be back to catch more with this charter See More

Over 20 federal lawmakers joined several thousand fishermen from around the country next to the US Capitol on February 24 in a three-hour rally supporting national fisheries reform. Journalists on the scene tabbed attendance at between 3,000 and 5,000 with fishermen standing elbow-to-elbow in Washington DC. Click here to read more!!!

Buyer beware: These days, it seems everybody and their brother is a fishing guide. Unfortunately, many of these captains are part-timers which use inferior equipment, vessels, have zero customer service skills or just recently obtained their USCG license and have little experience. Then there are the charter booking agencies who don’t care whose boat they stick you on, as long as they take your hard-earned money. These unscrupulous charter services sadly leave the consumer very disappointed and believing that the fishing in Florida is highly overrated.

I have been fishing with Capt Steve for several years. I am usually in the Tampa area 5-7 times per year and try to sneak in a trip with Capt Steve. We went out today during a very cold day. Capt Steve put us on…More

The waters are still a bit cooler than the kind a bunch of fish like to aggressively chew in. Fishing conditions, however, have slowly but surely begun to improve. On a recon mission Tuesday, I visited both Sunshine Skyway bridge fishing piers and th…

In the last couple of fishing trips this week we have caught trout, redfish, snook, and big bluefish. Fishing should remain good over the next few weeks with similar conditions but I expect the triple tail to show up in the coming weeks.
