Booked a 7a-11a trip with Captain Anthony. We arrived at 6:40 and he had his boat in the water and was all set to go. Anthony is very friendly and easy to talk to. He put us over a reef where we caught silver trout and some sea bass. He then took us to some vacant docks where we caught sea trout, pinfish, ladyfish, and multiple sheepshead. Fun trip, will hope to book another trip in the future.

On a particularly good year, the season can last up to 7-8 months. As any angler half worth his bait knows, that’s hardly standard for any Tarpon fishery. Does someone you care about suffer from a seemingly unbreakable ‘Tarpon curse’? Bring him to Tampa Bay. He should be completely cured within a day or two.

My brother Luke fishes this Rapala X-Rap with and without the red feathers in the back in both fresh and salt water, but depending on where you are fishing (and what species) you can try it with or without.

The plume of tidal flow, accelerated by funneling through the bridge, can move the fish a significant distance from the structure. Similarly, tides move bait schools around and that often influences where predators position themselves.

Granted, there will be times when you won’t need a leader line while inshore fishing (like if the water massively dirty and dark with no structure around), but 90% of the time you will be better off using a leader while inshore fishing.

With the spring season fast approaching, it ‘s a great time of year to experience the local outdoors.  Interested in seeing animals from the plains of Africa, without the plane fare…go to Safari Wilderness, where safari vehicles will tour 260 acres near Lakeland, Florida. Another great place to view wildlife is Busch Gardens…a great zoo as well as being home to many adrenaline raising rides.  Good luck and good fishing.

In Old Tampa Bay—the northwest arm of Greater Tampa Bay—three bridges link Hillsborough and Pinellas counties. North to south, these are: the Courtney Campbell, Howard Frankland and Gandy. South of the Courtney Campbell’s west end, the Tampa Bayside Bridge connects Clearwater and St. Petersburg.

Offshore game fish, like marlin and tuna, can be very large and heavy tackle is needed. Fishing is usually done with sea rods, such as downtide rods, with lines of 30 to 50 pounds and multiplier reels. Baits are the same as for inshore fishing and include squid and whole mackerel as well as artificial lures such as perks. Fishing takes place over reefs and wrecks for very large cod, ling and congers.

Myself and my friends 10 yr old son went out with Captain Anthony this morning and we couldn’t have had a better time. My little buddy had a smile on his face all morning and for the rest of the day. …To take a few hours out of his day to give a child an experience he’ll never forget just shows the quality and character of Captain Anthony and Pocket Change Charters. I can’t recommend his services enough. 5 stars doesn’t come close to what he truly deserves. Thank you sir. We’ll not only be back again but as often as you’ll have us. Again, you made Aydens day. Thank you. See More

Raising Seatrout is made easy with greenback or shrimp, although they’ll typically jump on any well-presented bait. According to the FWC, keepers must be more than 15 and less than 20 inches in total length. There is a daily bag limit of 6 per harvester.

Throughout peak migration (May-July), most Tarpon range between 80 and 140 pounds. Still, you’ll probably hear of folks joining the coveted ‘200 club’ every now and again. If you’re specifically booking a Tarpon charter, expect an average of 2-7 hookups per trip. Days with more than 10 hookups are certainly not unheard of, though. In the end, it all depends on your own expertise and a lil’ bit of luck.

“Had a great time fishing with Capt Jason. Jason put us on the fish and it was non-stop action right from the moment we put our lines in the water. Myself, my 17 yr old daughter, and her friend just hooked fish after fish. Reds, spanish mackerel, jacks, sea trout, and silver trout just to name a few. Capt Jason put us on a school of reds that just wore us out!”

Depending upon the type of saltwater fish that you are targeting, the most effective baits are usually the ones that most closely match the normal diet of that species. This might be anything from clams, mussels and sea worms to shrimp, squid and appropriately sized baitfish. Many fish will also strike chunk and strip baits, which tend to exude enticing oils through the water column.

Captain Jason Dozier has also spared no expense when it comes to the gear in your hands, but more importantly he is a native guide who will do whatever it takes to get you on the fish with the local knowledge to make it happen. Your fishing charter experience with him will be nothing short of epic.

Tampa Bay is an exciting fishery. There is no doubt that Captain Steve Betz and his 20+ years experience on these waters will put you on the fish. He offers years of Tampa Bay fishing reports here on his site. The data here can help increase your chances to land fish while on the water. Given that the reports come often and are seasonally based, studying the historical data here can become an asset you will wonder how you fished without.
